EPB bedding in - is it necessary
Just changed the rear disks, pads and shoes with a bit of help from Bodsy's brake bible. I was just wondering how vital it is to carry out the EPB bedding in procedure (section 11 of the bible)? There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

Recommendation is to bed it in, but if you don't, I don't think the world will end. It does settle them into position, but a few times of applying might work ok.
Any reason why you didn't?Bodsys Brake Bible

It just seemed to be a bit over the top to keep using the EPB to stop the vehicle repeatedly. Not really what it's designed for. There are two rules for success,

Mmm.... Well the bedding in process does exactly what it's designed for....
If you are not in that mode, then pulling the epb button will apply yr abs, not epb.Bodsys Brake Bible

The EPB is exactly designed for this task as it supposed to be able to stop the vehicle on its own in an emergency, when fully laden, going down hill and from maximum speed - with or without wheel speed sensor information.

And should you not be able to do so and are involved in an accident after you have been working on them your insurers will have a legitimate reason no to cover you.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Unless LRE have special vehicle putting the EPB on at speed puts the Service brakes on via the ABS pump.

I did mine the other week, although a complete pain, I kept running out of road, the change from the first try to the last was huge.
First try it made a horrible noise as it stopped, last try it made no noise and was much less snatchy.
Completed and happy but I gave up counting each time as the car should reset after ten tries but mine just kept going so I must have done it about fifteen times!Series 1 V8
