Harfords 4x4, Chippenham
Anyone here used them?
Took the D3 in at lunchtime for an MOT. They seem to know quite a bit about Discos - had several knocking around. Anyway, MOT couldn't have been easier - helpful, friendly, and ready when they said it would be. Couple of advisories, but they seem sensible.
Enquired about servicing - due the big 105k soon. They did a good job of talking me through what was involved, recommending the pulleys / tensioners (?) be done at the same time. Suggested around £650 plus VAT all in, and a couple of days to be on the safe side. Again, seemed to know their stuff.
Sounds reasonable to me, and would like to start a relationship with somewhere local. But couldn't find much about them with a search...

I'm about to try these guys out for a 70K service and a knocking noise coming from the front... any views on them? I'm based in Trowbridge but wont use WJ Joyce, can't take the supercilious attitude!

105k Service sounds expensive to me.
I've never tried Harfords but have heard they are expensive. I use Corsahm Tyres. They've been looking after my old bus for over 100,000 miles now. They really know their stuff. Perhaps its why my old bus is so ridiculously reliable. I usually supply the parts, which I get from Auto Factors on here.
Fantastic service and they will give you a little VW Up whilst its in.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

+2 for Steve. A VERY knowledgeable and helpful independent specialist who knows D3's & 4's inside out. They also have a loan car available.
I would be wary of any branch of Halfords - nothing against them (or Kwik Fit etc.) but just because Disco's are such complex vehicles.Tim

Thanks for the spec savers suggestion! Yes - reading it again it clearly say Harfords and not Halfords.
But my recommendation for Steve Norman still stands. T & S Norman are a family run business that specialise in later land rovers and know all the niggles and associated fixes, especially for D3 & 4 - all at labour rates of about a half to a third of LR!
