Shattered sunroof
Hello everyone. 06 Discovery 3 Metropolis. Came home from work yesterday and noticed front sunroof had shattered, no signs of any impact that could've caused this.

What you might find is that a previous impact has weakened the glass and then it just waits for it's moment.
I had similar though they never really got to the bottom of why it happened.

I had a rear sunroof go in a D3 years ago whilst off roading. Put it down to the body flexing.

Is this covered by windscreen cover on the insurance policy?
Never thought about it before, but i bet the rear roof glass is bloody expensive to replace Must stop buying shiny toys....

The car hadn't moved for nearly 2 weeks as I work away. Rang insurance and they weren't sure if it was covered under glass. Still waiting to hear back from them

Sunroofs are normally specifically excluded from glass but you might be lucky ...the Panoramic roof is sometimes covered but it is down to the insurer 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

If you haven't heard from them for 2 weeks you've either been forgotten or they hope you'll fix it on your dollar. What does your policy say re glass coverage?

Direct line covered mine thankfully. The chap had never heard of one being replaced before. I paid £70 excess of memory serves.

Policy says excluding sunroofs but they said I might still be covered. Auto glass have phoned me and said sometimes insurance company's still go ahead and do it anyway. Other than that its get a new glass myself and get it fitted or put in a full claim

Temporarily gaffer tape the outside to stop it collapsing inwards and any weather getting in.

Went to open the windows and roof on mine this morning and found my sunroof exactly the same ! No signs of impact ,no signs of vandalism ,just shattered glass , not sure if it actually shattered when I started to open it or if it was already like it ! Seems 25degrees was to hot for it !
Insurance glass won't cover it , have to make a claim and pay £200 excess plus will prob put up the premium next year even though I have protected no claims ! Not worth the hassle ,found a second hand one on eBay for £95.

Saw that one, I am still waiting for insurance to get back to me with a definite answer as to whether they'll cover it under glass or not
