Issue Getting a spare Keyless Fob with D4 MY2010-2011 |
|
Hi Guys ,
This is my first time posting , so please be gentle with me .
I have done a search and can't find anything exactly like my issue , so thought I would try your font of knowledge .
I have recently bought a 2011 D4 chassis number BA564XXX
It is an HSE and comes with keyless entry .
I got only one keyless fob with the car (yes I know, my bad, I should have checked before parting with my cash... but hey it's done now)
So ..
I bit the bullet and went to my local approved LR specialist to order a new key, which they did , based on my chassis number . 160+VAT +£30 diagnostic fee to program it .
A couple of days later they try to program the new key to my car and get some error (i don't know exactly what but I just know the module didn't see the key or visa versa)
The specialist then told me that LR had changed these keys and that they had seen somewhere that I might need to have a whole new module and 2 new keys to get round my problem !!
I have a contact at JLR engineering centre who kindly looked up a few things for me .
According to MCAT live , the correct key for my VIN would be LR024097
But the key ordered by the LR specialist was LR032873
So you might think it was a simple case of the Specialist ordering the wrong key .....
But everywhere I look on the web , i see notes to the effect that LR024097 has been superseded by LR032873 .
Now my questions .
Has anyone else heard of this problem... where an new key cannot be mapped by seen by a module from the 2010-2011 timeframe ?
If I can source an older (LR024097) level key (and I can find a couple of places I MIGHT be able to get one) , do you guys think that will solve the problem , and the Specialist will then be able to program the key ?
The specialist seems to think this might not be the case because he thinks the new diagnostics software might simply not be able to program the old modules/keys .... he also expressed concern that he might end up "locking out" the car's only good key !
I'm caught between a rock and a hard place , and would be very grateful indeed for any advice .
thanks Guys.
Saxon.

It is a known issue around 2010, I also bought my car with one key.
The dealer said he would re-progamme a new key, it did not work BUT he had preordered the module as he knew it would be that.
Fitted new module, coded new key and all good.
You should be able to keep your existing key.
I would go to main dealer for this as you may buy things you don't need, also I thought only they could do this work.
It was to be honest not that much for the module.

Thanks so much for the response , I appreciate it .
Do you recall roughly what you spent all in for the new key , module and labour ?

I think about £240ish inc VAT from Hunters in Guildford, Also don't forget the key has a blade in it!!! They sent that in the post about a week later
