My MY10 D4 (104k miles) makes the world disappear behind when as Swansty said in another post 'Does the car produce smoke when you give it the beans and exceed 2500rpm?'.
Now, I have been told on a number of occasions that this is 'simply' the DPF cleaning itself, and apart from this the car runs (touches wood, crosses fingers, etc) great and tows great.
I rarely get to those revs as I'm quite a lazy driver!!
Are there any other reasons that this happens (he asks innocently....)?

Does the MY10 D4 have a DPF? I didn't think it did

Mine does smoke a tiny bit on startup but not much, its the over 2500 that I am slightly concerned about - does yours do that?

Mines a 2010 and doesn't although there was a cut off date and this is signified by the 8th digit in the cars VIN no.
F = 245bhp non dpf
G= 245bhp with dpf
M = 210bhp with dpf

OK, you learn all the time! 
Mine has an F as the 8th character - so non-dpf!! 
So is the turbo drain the problem?
Will it cause problems if I dont get it fixed?

gvw -  Like you mine is 2010 without
davepruce - just a little bit of smoke on start up on cold mornings for me, sounds like you might want to look further into the technical bulletin regarding the excessive smoke

It has for some but not others so has to be worth a try
Your symptoms are typical of others such where the drain mod has worked

Thanks all.
I read the first one with interest when I first got the D4 and was horrified, but after a year of driving it and getting the smoke sometimes it hasnt changed so I will probably leave it as I am saving for the ~125k service!!!!!

It's the 2nd turbo drain. Had mine done and its now fine. Around £100

Hi
I went to test drive my D4 and it left a smoke trail like a WW2 distroyer down the road, the dealer said to boot it and it will clear, it did, he explained that it had only been driven in and out of their secure yard to the display area and just needed the cat clearing out.
After 3 weeks the smoke has not returned, mind it has been booted a couple of times since then

To the OP: Sounds like it needs the turbo drain mod
Landi - If you regularly boot it, you wont see the smoke because it is burning off smaller quanitites each time. Give it a week without booting it and then try! First I have ever heard of a cat needing clearing out! What exactly did the salesman suggest had accumulated on the cat? Dust? Oil?? Fuel??

Unlikely as D4's can't be remapped without taking the ECU out. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
