Right, late to the party on this! I know I had all good intentions of doing this a year ago! But other things have got in the way. Car is on 74k and running very smoothly, so to keep it that way I need to change the gearbox oil.

Today is the day, got 10 litres of Mannol oil in the shed, the sun is out, the birds are singing, what better day to double flush the gearbox on my car!

Question is, how far do I need to drive, or how long does it need to run in between oil changes to optimise the double flush effect?. I have enough oil to do 2 drops today.

I would have thought just enough to make sure the thermostat opens and mixes the oil up..........
however far that is, maybe 25 fast miles?

I'll retract that after re reading, looks like you get less out of the 8 speed box than the 6 speed. Thumbs Up

We will see Greg, currently just done the first drain, fill, and waiting for it to reach >68 degrees for level check. Takes an age although holding revs at 2000 gives it a boost!

In the meantime, here's what came out compared to what went in! Looks like it was ready for it!

As you are doing it yourself I'd leave it for now and do the second fill towards the end of the summer.

Clearly you now have time for a cracking hairstyle.

I'll need another bleedin haircut before it cools enough at this rate! Down to 35 after 2.5 hours.

Oh well, back to the hammock. 8)

Done! 8)

Took ages to cool down. Had to leave the bonnet open to help it.

Used 4.2 litres to fill. I know a few have said this Mannol oil might not be ideal, but it smelt the same and the car runs very smoothly. I'd like to say it changes gear smoother, but it's the same. There was nothing wrong it which is probably a good thing.

Robbies guide is very good. The only thing is when you are filling, and you are trying to get the oil hot enough to open the thermostat, when it opens it dumps a bit of oil out of the filler. I had moved my oil catcher and the drive copped a dollop!

I also put some copper slip on the belly pan bolts to aid removal next time.

I leave the next change until annual service in June.

280 miles down the road today, and I'm glad to say it's still running! I really do think the gear change is a lot smoother. I also think the fuel consumption might have improved a bit.

Gregg, I don't know if your going to get able to fit the Mannoll stuff, it was very good value, but seems to be no longer available. Only stuff I can find on tinternet is genuine ZF8 at various prices. Fill yer boots chap, I think it's worth it Thumbs Up
