Carrying Dogs - options outside the OEM guard?
Has anyone perfected a way of carrying dogs when the rear seats are in regular use?
The fixed OEM dog guard would be a pain to take in and out each time I wanted to use the seats but equally, it would be nice to stop the giants beasts from trying to take over the second row of passenger seating!
I have the OEM rubber boot mat but have also looked at protection for the backs (carpet) of the second row of seats - again, has anyone found an ideal solution?
When they are dry, none of this is an issue but given our current monsoon weather, I'm trying my best to avoid the boot of the Discovery from looking like I've had a pack of female mud wrestlers desecrating it.

Use a foldable dog crate or if you want to protect pooch and car properly a transk9.
My boot is never muddy from the dog, he's in the transk9.

There are various boot liner options that will protect the back of the 2nd row seats. My personal favourite (that I use) is this: http://www.boot-buddy.com/
Nothing is 100% proof against a wet lab deciding to shake once it has got into the boot of course, but that does a pretty good job. If you need to use the 3rd row seats it can just be pulled out.

My full setup is a hatchbag, travall cargo guard then the transk9.
Dexter doesn't get any of the car wet as he jumps straight up and in to his crate. Any shaking and the crate stops water going anywhereMY15 DIY Black Pack (Better than factory and half the price!)

I use the same guard (but I think mine came from britpart) and I have had for about 9 years since I got a D3 and now use same in D4. I take it in and out about once a month for rear passengers, but only takes a few mins to remove - takes longer to clear the rubbish out the boot!
When our dog was a puppy I used a collapsable dog cage from the house in the boot, and it was just the right size to go front to back. I dont bother now, but the only thing I have often wanted was a vertical seperator left to right to stop luggage falling on her when on a long trip.TDV6 HSE Lux (2014MY)

Dog guard with a Boot Buddy as thread below, got mine 2 years ago for RR and it does a pretty good job. took it out yesterday and apart from dog hairs here and there not bad functionally.
Boot buddy also market a perspex dog guard which is a good idea for smaller dogs I think? I had for about two months before I returned scratched as our dogs are big and jump about. If I were to review again I believe I would be drawn to K9 cage type as it is self contained and wipe down and may stop the dogs shaking off wet and mud on to headlining.
Just a thought.

Had a TransK9 for years and it was brilliant, if your dog fits I would definitley recommend.
I now use the OEM Cargo barrier due to the size of the dogs, my seats are up and down and once you've got the knack, the barrier can be removed in less than 5 mins.
I just use the standard rubber boot mat as I've kind of given up trying to protect the carpets. I just use lots of carpet shampoo and a Charles once a month and a Tornador in-between to keep the whiff at bay. The Tailgate carpet irritates me as it gets seriously grubby I have it on my list to remove the carpet and fit rubber matting on plywood instead.

I use a TransK9 its been as far as Greece & back & my dogs love it.
I use the OEM Cargo barrier so that when necessary I can safely load up to roof level - lots of olive oil from Greece, and wine from France.
In the shooting season the TransK9 sits on top of a Trans-Lock Secure Storage Drawer.
The whole lot sits on the OEM rubber boot mat.
NJSSAm I Gammon or Woke ? - I neither know nor care.

For this, I use a Hatchbag tailgate liner as although I have a drawer system, and don't need a boot liner, my beige tailgate carpet was also getting grubby especially from using it as a table when camping etc.
It is offered as an add-on for the full boot liner, and you need the full liner (normally) to cover the middle 'hinge-covering' section between the tailgate and the vehicle body. If you buy the simple tailgate liner on its own, it covers the tailgate but not this hinge flap. So the company made me an extra bit to also cover the hinge flap with a few inches of vinyl back into the boot - this then tucks under the drawers. If it wasn't down outside I'd take a photo - it's easier

Cheers for all the advice chaps - both dogs are a decent size, in fact one of them is a bit of a monster.
I had looked at cages but my concern was that the big boy would struggle to fit and when I'm not using them, I'd have to store them in the garage.
I'll do a bit more research and check out all the suggestions made.
I stupidly went for the ivory seats but thankfully the backs of the second row, all the carpets and door panels are black; therefore, it is only the front seats and the forward facing section of the 2nd row and third row seats that are ivory!

I've got a TransK9, but also had shelves (home build) in the back - this meant that the crate was too high and obscured my view, so a few days ago, I cut down the drawers so the crate now sits flush to the floor.

This also irritated me, so I took the rubber mat I got with the Dog Crate, and cut it to shape - now makes sure that the rug is never dirty

You can see that it folds over when the tailgate is closed - It's wet as we've had shedloads of rain Iggy/Ieuan
