To the best of my knowledge, the air intake noises are coming from the vent on the drivers side of the car. It sounds like the air is being sucked in through the vent and also sounds like it's coming in from another location too. Hope my vague descriptions are easy to translate..

I'd check that the hose from wing intake to the filter box is clear and not collapsed.

I'll have a look in the daylight and see how it's all looking. I tried prising the cover on the wing off, but didn't want to prise too much and damage something..
Will get a good torch out tomorrow and try and fight the wind and investigate.
Thanks again. Lewis

FURTHER UPDATES....
Replaced the air filter... No difference
Cleaned the MAP sensor (was extremely dirty).. Still no different
And checked the hose from the intake vent in the wing... Was also okay.
If i rev the car with the door open it sounds like the 'sucking' noise is coming from underneath the passenger side which has made me wonder if there could be a hole in the exhaust or somewhere down the system? I may be completely wrong but thought i would ask?

Hi Lewis. Sorry you are still having problems. As you now think the noise is coming from under the passenger footwell, I would definitely be looking at the small intercooler hose behind the heat shields in the front n/s wheel well.
Here is a photo of the first heat shield you need to remove.
They are reasonable easy to get out but unless you remember exactly how they came out, it can be a bit of a puzzle to replace them.
The little hose fits between the intercooler and a piece of rigid metal pipe. The hose in question is to the top left hand corner of this photo
You should be able to see (and hear) if it is damaged. Replacing it is a bit of a pig because of the lack of space. If you do have to change it, it will make it a lot easier if you slacken off the retaining bolt which holds the rigid section of pipe which leads upwards and forward towards the front of the car so it can me moved about more. This bolt (or maybe there are two, I can't remember) can be accessed from further forward in the wheel well but I seem to remember you might have to remove the wheel well liner to get to it.

Hi HughMartin.
Thanks for your post. It seems like a difficult task, but im willing to have a go and see how i get on. Do you by any chance have a pic of the hoses i will need? Just so i don't get the wrong ones...
Also hoping to blank my egr valves whilst ive got the car in a few bits.
Thanks again and will keep you all informed

If it is a blown inter cooler hose, you can get a set of silicon hoses from site sponsor Advanced Factors
There are bound to be other suppliers. When my small hose blew, I was a bit annoyed because I couldn't find a supplier of individual hoses, I could only get a set of three. I don't know if that has changed. Having said that, the silicon hoses are of significantly better quality than the or original LR set.
If it is the small hose that has split, you may also see what looks like an oil leak in the area as it is normal for some oil to get into the system here and it will be forced out of the split.

It's typical I buy just the intercooler hose and not think about the other hoses.
Suppose I will have to buy all 3 hoses and either sell the spare hose or keep it as a spare...
I'm hoping this fix the problem and I can sleep a bit easier.
Thanks again. Lewis

UPDATE!!!
Had the car in at the garage and they have said there is a large corrugated pipe from the back of the engine from the drivers to passengers side which has holes in it. They have said the body will need removing and 20 hours labour which they estimate will be around £1700!!
Ahh, the cross over pipe. Pretty sure 20 hours is a bit long via the body off method but it has also been done with the body on: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic116505.html The pipe itself is a rip-off though.

I think they quoted 20 hours as the garage i went to hadnt changed one before..
Popped up to Hunters Land Rover today and they can fit the part in approx 8 hours but they charge £100 p/h in labour
Ah ha...I suspect therein may lie the cause of the problem; when the gearbox comes out, the cross over pipe brakets are disconnected, and subsequent failure has been observed when the brackets have not been refitted correctly. I imagine, under such circumstances, it would always be impossible to prove anything though.
8 hours is much more like it. There must be a good indy about with more favourable labour rates, I'm sure. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

That is steep prices ,a competent car garage could change it for you if there hourly rate is good and you can buy the part for £480 from island 4x4 also need two gaskets and some nuts and a couple studs to replace any rotten ones
