A pair of sliders would probably be the simplest.

I think they are all going to involve removing the plastic sill covers, cutting holes and then assembling mourning brackets.

I bought a pair back in the autumn, but I'm not going to bother fitting them until the weather looks up a little Rolling Eyes

They are not snow friendly, particularly if you park out side Crying or Very sad my advice don't fit until April is out Thumbs Up Tree sliders don't have this problem.

Re: Running boards

Are they still called that?
Always thought they were fitted to the old 1920/30s gangster cars so they could stand on them and fire off their Tommy guns.

Also, I hear some people still call the mirrors on their doors 'wing mirrors'.
And I bet very few people actually put gloves in their 'glove box'

If you don't want to pay LR prices, click here and take your pick:

Some are even described as "Running Boards" Very Happy

The price differential between LR OE and the replicas is gigantic (£450 v £125) but the quality is the same.
Plenty of places on eBay Thumbs Up

Side steps will involve removing the plastic sill trim then measuring & cutting to allow brackets to pass through before you refit them, you'll probably need a handful of the little yellow retainers that are prone to breaking.
Your other alternative is a set of the Prospeed sliders with the step inserts, this will not only give you a step but some protection as well (especially for the sills).

I found with the use of a trim clip removal tool that I was able to keep all the clips in tact, but it would be prudent to have a few to hand.
