Those are 20" wheels, standard was 19" IIRC
In addition to the usual things to check I would listen/feel for wheel bearings also steering wheel judder under braking from higher speeds

Not personally, but have you used the MOT check website to see past history?
Also a member here is selling a similar vehicle that maybe of interest?
I have done a full check on it, including MOT history, seems OK, probably will need front suspension looking at as last MOT mentioned play in the offside lower suspension ball joint, but other than that nothing else mentioned.
I am looking for one without rear tinted windows, which is quite hard to find at the right mileage/money.

Would the 20" have been original for the year, or are they an addition?, I know the early Mk3 FFRR had problems with 20" alloys causing vibrations (I had one), and they should only be put on cars with the correct steering rack, is the D4 the same?

I will do
I would like to take someone with me to view it, as I always think it is a good idea to have someone who knows about cars and isn't to involved with the shiny aspects of the car to get a good second opinion.
Anyone in or near Liverpool who fancies taking a look with me?

I agree, I have same age and mileage and have changed wheel bearing and just done front discs and pads due to wobble on breaking at speed around 60mph.
Also check rear door switch as that will be on the way out if not already changed.
Mine has 20" from the factory as extra too.

Thanks for all the tips to look out for, is it the top door switch or lower door switch to look out for?

Its the switch in the number plate light part, it corrodes under the rubber, I had to change mine. You can feel it under the rubber and also if the switch needs a good push it will be on the way out.
