Front doors not locking
Happy New year to all on the forum..
For some time now the actuator on the drivers door has stopped locking, unfortunately the same fate has happened to the passenger front door. it took some time to realise what was happening, it was only the alarm going off that made me recognise it had failed!
I have read a post on here about the failure and replacement of the actuator, but wanted to explore if anyone has analysed why the failure happens and if the actuator can be repaired. Obviously if wear or breaks inside the actuator have happened any repair is unviable/un-economic.
It did also cross my mind it could be the cable sticking as the door tries to lock and fails, also the failure was gradual not instant which indicates sticking of a component not failure.
Yes i can replace them but would like to have a pop at repairing for the sake of the forum and future failures so any clues before I start would be appreciated..

With me it was an amazing amount of dirt and crud on one of the motor commutators. Or at least it has appeared to be as its not failed since stripping it, apart from once that I know about.

People have replaced motors and motor brushes inside the mechanism with good results.

Yes, but:
1: I'd rather fix something for free than replace
2: Removing, determining the problem, fixing and refitting was all done in one go
3: I don't like spending money!
Agreed though, replacing the motor must be a better strategy than fixing something that's nearly ten years old. Are the motors easily available from somewhere?

Thanks for the feedback all.. currently in South Africa and a replacement is £90 a pop. If the brushes motors are available as requested could someone provide the source in the UK an in return I will do the write up on "how to".
