Well I tried today to change the pump on mine, managed to take all apart including the inner arch etc, how on earth do I get anything on the bolt at the back of the pump - I can see it but just can't get in close enough to put a socket or spanner on - this does seem like a rubbish design fault

Any ideas on how to get to the rear bolt

I unbolted LH engine mount bolt and lifted left side of the engine a little bit when replaced 2006 pump, bracket to 2008 version. It required to replace hose from pump to rack as well.
2006 can be done without engine lift but you really need to remove LH wheel, wheel arch shield.

Thank Gruodiz,

I took the wheel off, wheel inner arch, heat Sheilds, and loosened the inter cooler pipe- pushed it to one side so I could see the bolt - the problem is access to the bolt is near impossible with a socket and no chance for a spanner due to the suspension being in the way - also a coolant pipe goes into the head.

The bolt I am after is the one at the back of the steering pump.

Any ideas on how I can get at this?

I did all the work same as you ant then unbolted LH engine mount with 18socket, lifted LH of engine with engine crane until that pumps' rear bolt was good to reach over up of shock absorbers mount. It's good to have extension with swivel ball at the end which is stronger than UJ extension.
It's prety easy then and almost impossible without engine lift
Good luck Thumbs Up

Thanks, that's very helpful - how much can you safely lift engine by to gain access? Did you then undo the bolt from the engine bay or still from wheel arch?

Thank you

About 5-10cm as much as you need put socket on that bolt. Engine mount unbolted from engine bay with swivel ball extension too Smile

Great, just to confirm the power steering pump rear bolt is then undone by accessing in the engine bay?

Pumps rear bolt from wheel arch. There's a gap for that up shock absorbers mount on frame and below body. Where air pipe goes to shock absorber.
