D3Chris, nice wheels Thumbs Up

Ok, it's always been an issue that the D3 must have a tyre load index of 111 or greater, but i have noticed a few people are going for the the 275/45/20's with a load index of 110, so is anyone having any problems with this load index?
Has anyone notified their insurance etc?
And how many people are actually using this spec??

Just curious as it would be my first choice of size over the 285/50/20 116s as it is closer to the original size.

I only ran 274/45x20's Nexens rated at 110 for about a month, as they were crap tyres anyway. The 265/50x20's I've got on now are rated at 111W, and I've done almost 32k miles on them so far Thumbs Up

Hi lee,

Mine are 275/45 R20 110S.

Had them on for last 6k with no issues.

From my limited understanding, the 110 part refers to the load rating, 110 being 1060kg as oppose to the recommended 111 which would be 1090kg. With the standard D3 rims only rated at 940kg, I would assume that a tyre rated at 1060kg should be more than sufficient.

The S refers to the speed rating which is 112mph as oppose to the recommended H or V being 130mph or 149mph respectively. I don't regularly exceed 100, sorry 70mph in mine so not too worried about the lower speed rating!

Anyone with a bit more tyre knowledge wish to correct me??!!

D4 MT dilema

There is an updated tire size chart for the D3 at Johnsonrods web page:

http://johnsonrods.com/johnson_rods_2_004.htm

what strucks me, is that some of the sizes claimed to be possible (with lift kit) are nowhere commented and/or tried by anyone on the forum. I have a problem finding a good off-road tire for the D4. As I want to switch back/forth between intended use, I was thinking of going slightly overboard on the size, say 285/55-20. (it is a pity that the only way to get a decent offroad tire on a 3.0l D4 you have to go up in size of the wheel)

Big question is: would it realy ever have a chance to fit a D4?

And than again, unless I am missing something, there is no MT tire in the 285/55 -20 size or any other 20". The closest is the new Nitto Trail Grappler - but that is even bigger (295/55-20).

Last time I went offroading on factory 19" D4 setup, I damaged 2 rims in mud ruts. That hurt This is bound to happen every time as long as the sidewall is short (as it is) and the rim is not recessed (as it is not).

There has to be some solution, and I am still searching. Maybe I will forget MT, )although I mostly need for mud applicatons) and go for LTZ's which look good and get good recommendations from members of this forum.

The first post on this thread makes reference to the standard 235/65/17 tyres for the S model as per the manual. I am looking at replacing this size with the BF Goodrich Rugged Trail 265/65/17. Any advice on the pro and cons of this change will be appreciated. Question Thanks.

It says NOT 235/65/17s, those are RRS sized and wrt most road tyres they are under weight rated.

20 Inch Tyres

Hi,

running Pirelli Scorpion 255/50/20's (109 rating) on a 56 plate D3 on D4 20" 10 spokes.

Used them over summer and swapping back to 18s next week for remainder of winter. Used the D3 6 up with roofbox and boot full to the brim to Lake Garda and back and no problems with loading.

Hi yeah they look top. I got them on my d3
Please excuse me for saying though, whoever balanced them wants shooting putting grab weights on the outside edge
Get em re balanced properly with stick on weights
They will look much better then.thats just my opinion though sorry

Pointy shows what you know Rolling with laughter least amount of weight used when you put the weight out wards

Clips are used because they were used before

looking nice on a set of off road rims aint an option

Stickies fail repeatedly on pitted internals and when applied in cold temps

My advice look before you leap Rolling with laughter
