So............. this is progress!!!!!
They have started building a solar farm a mile from me but luckily it's just the other side of a hill so I can't see it
200 acres of prime agricultural land which will never return to such.
The steel probably dumped cheaply on the worlds markets by China and shipped from there.
70% of the worlds photovoltaic panels are made in China.
There are thousands of tons of hardcore transported from the Mendips.
There are several hundred workers from Romania!!!!
So what is the carbon footprint to build a so called green energy source?
What a joke!!!
Pic one looks like flooding and is only a quarter of the final farm. Last pic is a good advert for Disco's!!

Don't fret, the Chinese are coming to build our nuclear power stations and the French will help distribute it. As milk, you'll always have it in your tea as you brew up on the back of your Indian Land Rover thanks to Hungary, Romania and Poland.......

In defence the land isn't totaly lost to agriculture as it will be used for grazing sheep, it's an economical way to maintain the land between and under them and they normally have a 30 year life span after which provisions have to be made to return the land to previous use. Round here they are only granting permission for them on lesser quality farmland. That said as a farmer I wouldn't have them on my land and I think they are a blot on the landscape.==================================

The land is down to maize, winter wheat, silage with a few heifers in the summer as it’s too far away from the dairy farm and isn’t suitable for sheep for the better part of the year. Time will tell and if there are sheep out there next summer then I will post another pic
and they normally have a 30 year life span after which provisions have to be made to return the land to previous use.
In the plans they say 20 years, but do you honestly think it will ever go back to agriculture. NO, the panels will just be changed out for another 20 years
That said as a farmer I wouldn't have them on my land and I think they are a blot on the landscape.
Nothing compared to those f windmills (sorry, wind farms) on top of hills and mountains.

I like wind farms.
as for photovoltic..I would rather they fill the field with trees for 20 years
plenty of roof space in the city for generating at point of use.It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
Honestly, they should be combining the two sites. So much room required around wind turbines in case of failure that there's loads of room for solar around the bases. Set the strings up properly and shading won't be an issue. Much neater way than losing land to both.
Still, we desperately need the nukes to get renewed. Would you rather we didn't let the chinese/ french run them and sit about in the dark?
If we're serious about climate change we need to get rid of our fossil fuels. Even spending the nuke money on wind and solar isn't going to make them work any better in the timescale we require. Unless someone's hits on room temperature superconductors on a scale that can be used for storage, we're in serious trouble without the baseload generators.
As long as we're not being NIMBY's it'll be ok...

I prefer the wind turbines. No more unsightly than pillions running the length and breadth of the country.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Totally agree, pillions are better suited to their motorcycles than running around & ruining our damn country!!
