Firstly let me state that I think M& S are about as an incompetent organisation as you can get on the high street. But rant mode on
Wife by mistake took out £20 from a cashline machine - she should have used her RBS card!!
M&S then charged us £3 for the doing so then to add insult to injury a further 27 pence in interest at the end of the month.
Lesson
don't use a M&S mastercard to draw out money from a cashline.

Are not all these credit cards just as bad? The cost of spending money you do not have. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

All credit cards charge for cash withdrawals and interest from day 1, not just the end of the period.

Just realised I am still being charged interest on I suppose the £23.27 outstanding as not due to pay off the card until the 25th. That has now been sorted. As a wise man once said " you can not buy experience you pay for it".

Similarly, also watch out that payments made against a card will affect the lowest APR rate first.
For example, you have £3k balance transfer on a card at 0%, you're paying £100 per month off it. If you use the card acidentally for a retail purchase (or cash at an ATM) you'll be carrying that balance, let's say £50, at the relevant rate, e.g. 19% APR. You'll pay 19% APR interest monthly on that £50 until all of the £3k at 0% is cleared.

I love my new M&S card - 19months 0% on purchases and balance transfers and £30 voucher for using it once
American Express is even better - had loads of offers from them including £125 M&S vouchers at xmas and currently £5 credit for £50 fuel at ESSO.

I don't do credit at all other than my nearly paid up mortgage. Was caught up about 25 years ago in a never ending credit payment that stuffed me. Paid that off by remortgaging (and reduced my mortgage payments by £100/month, didn't realise that I was being so overcharged. ) and never used them again. If I can't afford it, I don't have it. Simples. FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Tesco Credit Card for all the normal monthly stuff - food, diesel etc etc.
Always pay it off in full, always use my points for a free EuroTunnel crossing each summer

Same here, got one, never use it.
I'd rather pay outright if I buy something then don't have to be efficient at the end of the month. Mods:

Lots of places in the UK will not accept American Express.
Reason being they will rip off traders something chronic.
Simple reason they will charge the shop 10-15%. Yes they may offer 5% cash back to the card holder I wonder why?

+1 for the Tesco Platinum credit card. I use it for all household expenditure, including fuel. I have my Eon duel fuel account set to give me more Tesco points. Also, I make sure I use Shell fuel station as much as possible, and collect Shell drivers club points too. Pay it off each month. Never paid a penny interest in years.
Generally get enough Tesco vouchers for a couple of bottles of Malt Whisky a month!

AMEX - I really don't care what they charge the retailer to be honest.
The rewards are excellent in either direct credit to your account as in current fuel offers or past offers when you spent £60 at supermarket you got £25 credit back.
Got £125 M&S vouchers at Xmas as well from them which was nice.

Many years ago I was staying in a Hotel in Falmouth for a couple of weeks on a job for BP regarding converting diesel gen sets to run on gas....
Anyway there was a notice at Reception on how to pay:
Cash - we really like cash.
Cheque - supported by a Bank Card
Credit Cards accepted include Visa, MasterCard, etc., etc.
At the bottom it said:
If you absolutely have nothing else then we MAY accept American Express but you need to see the Manager first. Stew,
2010 D4 gone but I really loved it
Went back to Merc - C350 AMG
