2010 D4 - Should I or shouldn't I?

Arrghh, can't decide whether to go for this D4. I have been waiting for a while for one now and am now out of my company car and running round in a D2 Td5, I've been offered a deal on a 2010 D4 XS SDV6 but it has the gear shift not rotary so presume the older 245bhp 6 speed auto?

It's mint with only 45k on the clock but is a bit older than I would have liked. What's the general opinion on reliability etc? I really don't want a money pit, this one is up at £26k at a LR main dealer so I get a full 2yr warranty but what is likely to need doing in the next couple of years and 30k miles?

I cant afford a newer one just now but my dilemma is that I am also looking at a 14 plate top spec Hyundai Santa Fe with 3.5 years of full warranty. Not got the prestige of the D4 but I like the look and reckon it will be a more economical and cheaper vehicle to own if slightly less capable.

Obviously this is a D4 site so bias will abound but is a 60 plate SDV6 worth the money or should I give it a miss and keep looking??

Only you will know if it's the right thing to do. I would say you could get more at that budget although not at a main dealer. So it will be a weigh up between age/spec against peace of mind/warranty Confused

As for the Hyundai I can understand the appeal and it does make sense BUT you have wanted a D4 for a while so get that out your system first Thumbs Up

How about a GS and compromise on some toys Question I don't think you'd be disappointed Very Happy

Looked at a couple of GS models, too much missing, want leather and cruise control.

Think this XS is maybe a bit too old for the money but there's not much around thought there might be a few with the new reg and associated part exchanges.

Whatever I get will be staying for at least 2 years (promise!!)

I went for a 2010 XS about 18 months ago, mine was a little more expensive and it was on 65,000 miles (now 80,000). There have been a few problems, but nothing serious, aside from a renewed loathing for car dealers.

So if it's a D4 you want and the later models are out of reach, I'd still say go for it as a do love mine and it still makes me smile, but personally I would want an XS or above as I like my toys.

I had a similar dilemna as sold my D3 a couple of years ago and regretted it.

I was looking for a 6/7 seater and couldn't face an mpv so looked for an auto Santa Fe premium 12/62 plate as wanted the slight facelift with sat nav at the £15-16k mark. Looked for months and couldn't find what I wanted and always had the nagging feeling about the loud engine and the poor ride quality when sitting in the back.

So bit the bullet and bought a 2010 D4 XS with 55k on the clock at a local general dealer for £22,500 in April this year.

So far it's great and feels like I've won the lottery every time I drive it!

I definitely would not have had that feeling in the Hyundai.

At the end of the day it's personal choice though.

Cheers Jon

Cruise control easy option to add yourself Thumbs Up
Some GS come up with leather or even have it fitted via a trimmer. The £££savings would still be well worth it Thumbs Up

Of course it could well be down to luck, but my 2010 D4 was the best of the bunch for being totally reliable. Never even had a squeak or a rattle.

I'm assuming you've got another vehicle for your off roading, but I prefer the 6 speed box when off road.

The 8 speed is great on road, but I'm perhaps not as enthusiastic as some here are about it.

At the end of the day it is your choice. However 6 or 8 speed the D4 is a cracking car and I would have either over the Hyundai.
You have had D2s and D3s so you will see an improvment no matter what D4 you ho for.The car Glynne posted a link to looks good but there are others about as well especially if you can stretch the budget. I just sold my MY12 D4 8 speed with extras and warranty for 32k and that was a cracking g car with warranty.

Thanks folks, agree there are some nice spec ones if you hunt around but I do want LR dealer warranty and finance so have to accept that's going to cost me.

I'm going to go back and have another look as I really can't decide.
