Mike, in my experience, it's going to cost you a replacement compressor I'm afraid if you want to fix the problem and forget about it.
Believe me, many people try various fixes for these random and varied compressor issues but as time passes, the whole thing just gets tired and starts throwing out loads of issues. Posters have replaced numerous components but nearly always end up throwing the whole lot away and getting a replacement. About the only fix that seems to work is the cracked cap repair where air weeps from the crack between the two pipe connector holes, this is repairable but just about all the other quick fixes don't really work for long, if at all.
Bite the bullet and bin it. Mods:
Front Fogs + Halos
FBH Remote Control
The 1st Ever RRS Modded Grill
Garmin Nuvi + D4 Surround + Reversing Camera.
D4 Steering Wheel.
Rear Boot Spoiler.
Twin Brake Lights.
Wing Mirror Indicator Repeaters.
Long Roof Rails

I'm not scared, I'm outta here.

It can be as simple as a height sensor though.
It really needs proper diagnostics before throwing money at it.

When my compressor was dying I started getting the odd SUSPENSION FAULT message on ignition on and when stopped in traffic - this started becoming more frequent over about 6 months, eventually every time I started the car I'd get SUSPENSION FAULT - NORMAL HEIGHT ONLY immediately after the compressor cut out.
I removed the compressor and bench tested it - output was pretty much zero even after I cleaned out the dryer. Sometimes you can get away with a new dryer, but for me the whole compressor needed replacing. I replaced with the AMK version and have had no faults since.2008 RRS TDV6 - Chawton White/Black/Lined Oak - 20's, h/k, sunroof - 350K KM.

compressor dead - caused by crack on reservoir-worth a check
Hi
my D3 being 10years old with 220000km suddenly showed the same error. as per our finding the compressor burned down, so need to replace, also the relay..
If anyone has a chance to check the compressor and a little reservoir next to it DO IT. the reservoir got a little crack that killed the compressor.
Worth a minute to check before it cost so much.

Hi all. Disco is down on her haunches.got a suspension warning light coming home at the weekend. By Tuesday it was a no go. Did my research on here. Whiped the pump of tonight. No crack on the dryer and the pump just wouldn't run. Before I took it orf.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a new pump. Rvc want 800 fitted and flea bay are offering one for 357 plus relay.i have the worst out of the way but would like to buy with confidence. Any ideas ??

Same here after just buying the car last week - my indy read the codes and indicated the compressor was dead; it was the original compressor.
For a few years there has been a new compressor out, which will be installed next week, including the required software update. Will set me back about 1k€....
Phone up Matford and I think you'll get it a bit cheaper.
