MY16 TPMS Tyre Pressure Check Accuracy? |
|
I check the tyres regularly and have a gauge on the compressor as well as a hand-held gauge. Both of these give me the same value e.g. 34psi for the fronts and 37psi for the rears, if I go in to the Service menu and check the pressures there after a short gentle drive to ensure the system gets fresh readings without warming the tyres, the car tells me the tyres are at 38psi and 41psi respectively.
An over of 4psi, equivalent to the difference between low and high load setting, or near as dam it.
So, two questions:
1. which should I belive, my two independant gauges, one Michelin, the other ARB4x4, or the car system?
2. Anyone else experiencing similar? LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

From another TPMS thread...

So how can they be calibrated then? LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Context dear boy .....The TPMS are calibrated during manufacture ..if subsequently you have a problem ... and the LR service techs find sensors which appear faulty.... they wont test them...they throw them and fit new. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It's a different type which they don't sell any more, but I was forced to take a club hammer to my Halfords one a while back when it decided every tyre was 0.0 psi
I felt a lot better afterwards 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

I've stood in Halfords and tested a variety of new gauges on the tyre/wheel sets they have for sale and the range on readings can be shocking. I'm not having a go at them in particular as lots of gauges are useless.
I have TPMS on my Disco but it's the half way way house system that does everything apart from tell you the pressures despite having the sensors etc. I do have the full system on another car and it is very accurate FWIW. 2014MY Discovery
