Bearmach side steps

has anyone had issues with the Bearmach tubular side steps B190201 ? I bought them to replace the standard OE steps that had rotted badly and I wanted something that didn't stick out like surf boards.

In any event the tubes seem to be too long at the front, meaning they push the mud flaps right forward. They also rely on fixings made of M8 threaded bar with welded T piece on the end. This slots theough holes on the chassis and spins until it locks against the side. They seem very weak, and one snapped whilst tightening up.

I've written to Bearmach today, but now wondering if I should have stuck to the OE steps after all, which seem much stronger...

Thx

Tony

There's a few threads on this subject - believe the regular mud flaps don't fit with these steps. Think you can adapt other flaps to fit though.

Think Alan B has these and also had a bit of trouble with fittings snapping.

Thumbs Up

Oh brilliant...

Hopefully Bearmach Customer Services will be aware of the issue then. Last thing I want is one dropping off and pitching the car off the road...

Maybe I should have waited. A mate of mine is a dab hand at making rock sliders !

thx anyway

Like this Whistle

The only problem myself and many others have had ( I'm sure ) was tightening one of the t bolts a bit much and it snapped.
However 1967jester got a load made up and Advanced Factors now sell them.
I have series3 mudflaps so no problem there.
You can do a search on all this.

Cheers for that...

I'll look up the bits and may be some new front Flaps !

I take it series 3 are just a later JLR design, not aftermarket ???

thx

Had them on for a couple of years.
Never got them to fit properly. Was always a little loose, but the worst was that they rusted all through.
The quality of the tube is really bad.
Took them off and scrapped them.

Another thing is that they are worthless as steps. And asthe fateners are not really good they do not work as rocksliders either.

Do not buy them.

They are on the car now so I'm a bit stuck unless Bearmach want them back. I still have the option of fabricating some rocksliders but these might have to do for now. I think part of it is the fact that there are only 2 brackets whereas the JLR ones have three.

Lets see how long they (don't) last !

Only my opinion but I find them okay as steps,
Never have and never would consider them as rock sliders. As obviously that's not what they're sold as or described as.
Yes some of the fittings ( bolts ) are poor and tend to snap. Also Bearmach don't / won't supply replacements.
As for rusting through, also can't comment on that as only had mine on for just over 2 years.
Maybe only 2 brackets, but at least you don't have to cut cills etc to fit them.
As said on other thread advanced factors stock spare t bolts if required
