I've used a few on Defenders over the years. I used to have expensive Warn winches but only really needed them perhaps a couple of times a year. So I started using cheaper ones I think the last one I had was a winchmax 12,000lb cost about £250 I found it perfectly adequate for the occasional use that I had for it. It was more than capable of pulling my 110 out of some very gloopy mud. If you do get one I would advise winding it in and out every month or so just to make sure it doesn't seize up and then not work on the one time you need it.
Hi
cheap e-bay winches tend to be low pulling power. If your D3 is stuck in mud you need at least 4 tonne pull to get you out of trouble. I had a 2 tonne winch on a trailer that broke pulling a D2 on its back. I replaced it with one that's pulls 8 tonne and has never let me down. However it did cost around £800 plus steel plate on the trailer and is very heavy.

I had a couple of cheap winches on my my 90 didn't use them much for myself self you find your self everyone's friend at a off road day people want you to pull them out. I found when I wanted to use it for myself it didn't work I had a champion and then a warrior winch. But very slow pull speed. Then I spent the money and brought a superwinch and didn't look back it worked every time I needed it and was fast as well. Spend the money and get a decent one even if only using no and again it will last longer especially with a hidden mount you don't want to be taking bumper off and repairing motor after every other use.www.pcsupportservicez.co.uk
