Rear prop-shaft UJ

On inspection I found that the centre bearing on my rear prop-shaft needed replacing even though there was no vibration or any other indication that it had gone (the usual rubber mount disintegrating).

While replacing it, I noticed the rear UJ had a definite tendency to almost 'click' into the central position in both planes. Other than that it was smooth and on reassembly again everything was again smooth.

Is this UJ 'centralising' normal?

Nope should be linear throughout its travel, sounds like you have a sticking needle roller.

Thanks for the reply. Its as I thought then....this isn't normal Big Cry
It was because both planes of movement, i.e. up/down and side to side had this notch when dead central that I started to doubt if this was some sort of intentional thing.
Running smooth enough for now but I guess next time its a new shaft.

You will probably find its only ran in a very limited range of what it can do and has worn itself into that range, ie no lowered suspension and no off roading.
My old dad told me use it or lose it!
