your new d4 may be missing a mounting nuts in the frame for the supporting arms
so you may need to buy them separately (few quid)

It can be done, a guy at work had his fixed tow bar removed from his D3 & refitted to his new D4. This was done by the dealer.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread
Trying to do just this on my D4 and now wish I checked the forum first!
Just taken the multi height of my soon to disappear (hopefully) D3 and after a wire brush and spray of black paint came to try and fit to D4 - but sure enough I'm missing the captive nuts in the chassis.
Any idea of the part numbers I'll need or what exactly I need to ask for? Not found my local dealer to be consistently helpful.
PPS. (Seriously off topic - but anyone who knows answer to above will know answer to this too) I've not removed the bumper for the electrics but found there is a new plate for d4 electrics that can only be fitted with bumper off. How easy is bumper off on a d4? Trying to work out if it's worth it?

Think what you need are the two long bolts and spacer tubes which weren't needed on the earlier D3s but came into use (I think) about 2007/8
I 'may' have a couple spare, if you're interested? I'll check in the garage 8)

I am interested - as I've not a great experience with the detachable towbar staying rigidly secure. For now I'm using the multi height without the tie bars attached. It'll be fine until I need to hang the bikes as well as tow the caravan in a few weeks!
Only thing is... Driving to Scotland to pick them up might be a little impractical.
Might make more sense for me to check out a local dealer. Let me get a local cost. If it's high enough to cover the postage and give you a few drinks I'll drop you a line.
Thank you. Really appreciate the offer.

Glad you got sorted Trev, pleasure to meet you and thanks for the lift! Hope your French hols with the family go well in the D4 and yes my drive home was very pleasant and very smooth apart from the traffic hold up due to an RTC (or two) on the A1 8)
