2008 RRS 4.4 Petrol with intake full of oil

Not a D3, but pretty close.

My wife's RRS has picked up another habit. It would idle nicely, but if you accelerated it would leave a BIG cloud of white smoke. I checked the dipstick and it was about 1.5 quarts low. Replaced the PCV valve, and cleaned out the lines, and brought to oil level back into spec but it still smoked.

Pulled the throttle body off and there was enough oil in the intake to put the Saudi reserves to shame! I ended up draining over 14 ounces of oil from it.

From what I have read, the main two problems can be a bad PCV valve, or a bad EGR.

I pulled the intake so that I could completely clean it out.

Now, I have two questions:

1. How do I tell if the old PCV Valve was bad? Both the new one and the oil one do not appear to restrict air flow in either direction.

2. How do I test the EGR valve? I pulled it and the plunger is present and does not look bad, but I can move it easily with a screwdriver. Should I not be able to?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It is possible that the engine breather system is blocked somewhere allowing oil to be pushed into the intake.. This used to happen on BMW engines. Is there a breather filter or another valve somewhere that is blocked?
