Compressor died - opinion on coils? Or time to say goodbye?
Hello All,
LR3 in at local specialist today - suspension faults indicated over the last week, definite drop in level and no compressor noise.
Apparentely compressor fried, and there is a leak in the system somewhere. So we're looking at $800 for a compressor then tracking the leak - $750 if its a bag. His suggestion is to switch out for coils to avoid any other issues down the line.
She's done 147k miles - he can fit coils with a lift included for $1650 so my Terra Grapplers will not foul and I'm still good for my trips to Moab. I've used the guy for years so am willing to listen to his advice but would appreciate forum thoughts.
There are a couple of other niggles (hatch will not open so needs stripped down) and I need new tires this year, so part of me wonders it its time to trade in - but I'll only get $7k from a dealer and to move up to a D4 is not within my price range right now (two expensive house moves in a year ).
Thoughts?
P.S. just got back from a great trip back to the UK. Shares in Greggs must be going up as I had something from there nearly every day lol.'80 109 Stage 1 V8 - still going strong!

A new compressor is not difficult to fit and the latest type do seem to last. External leaks are easy to find and fix, so time for some soapy water in a spray bottle.
Oh and no, I would not ruin it with coils.

Hi Robbie, called guy at garage asked if he had any way of testing for a leak to see if its a bag or elsewhere - he says he'll have to order a compressor in to be able to test it and very much seems to be trying to steer me to springs.
If it is a bag can it be repaired or is it a replacement? Is a bag more likley than elsewhere? Jyst trying to decide if I go the compressor route could I be throwing good money after bad with new air bags?
Appreciate your help '80 109 Stage 1 V8 - still going strong!

Leaking bags are pretty rare; pipework, connectors, compressor cap and valve blocks are more likely.
Usual starting point is to raise it high one evening, turn it off and pull the EAS fuse. The following morning see what has happened and take it from there.
