Flushing the cooling system and renewing coolant |
|
Hello,
I am about to change the coolant and flush the system. Doing that, I want to get all old coolant/flush water out so I can fill with premixed new coolant. Reading the workshop manual it says to empty the system, remove bottom radiator hose and also the hoses for the rear heater. From this information I have two questions. 1.) How do I know if I have a rear heater? 2.)Will emptying the system just by removing the lower radiator hose (if I lack a rear heater) result in a totally empty system? If not there will be some flushing water left in the system. If that is the case could I just fill with the right amount of concentrated coolant and end with filling up with water letting the coolant mix itself over time?
Thanks,

What I done was took the top return hose off and let it run which pumps it round, which will pump out of the top hose while filling up wigh water at same time, then you will have clean water in system, then put coolant in same way which will mix, that worked for me

Thanks for your answers! I am changing the waterpump so I need to empty the system. I also want to flush the cooling system by using a garden hose and flush it as good as I can. So the question remain. Will the system be completely empty when using the "by the book" method so I can refill it with 50 % coolant or do I need to assume there are so much water left in there so it actually lowers the coolant to water ratio?
Best wishes,
