As much as I would like the rear AC working I think blanking it is going to be option...

Ok, so have decided to try and get this repaired. Booked in with an aircon specialist later this week. Fingers crossed I will be a lot cooler for the weekend!

Which specialist have you gone with? I have a similar problem and have been told there's a chap in Crawley that does the replacement with flexible pipe and re-gas for £190.
Have yet to look into it too far but it's on the list!

Hi Alex,
I've booked in with Ifield Air Con (www.ifieldairconditioning.co.uk). No idea if they are any good but I spoke to a few companies and he sounded the best of the bunch. Will let you know later this week if you like.
He said he can repair pipework and/or replace depending on the issues he finds. Seemed to know what he was on about, he is familiar with the Disco 3 so I thought I would go for it.
One of the other companies I spoke to just said if they found an issue they would simply replace with LR parts, there was no potential innovative fixes and they had minimum charges.
So in the end I think the Ifield one sounded good.

190 is a great price. I was recently quoted 325 plus VAT. Think I need to come down to Crawley!Ted

So it looks like I have multiple leaks in the pipework just behind the air tank heading back to the rear corner. The guy showed me so I saw under UV some dye on a few areas. He reckons he can replace the whole section with flexible hose, he is unsure of cost because he isn't sure how long it will take but he estimates £200-£300 plus VAT.
Guess the £190 may be a little unrealistic?!? Alex, do you know where that was?
Need to decide what to do now. Is it OK to blank off the back? Where do you blank it?
After having my 3rd quote in the region of 400 I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and blank off the rear air con. I was hoping it wouldn't be more than around 200 but it seams that's very optimistic.
The rear aircon is blanked under the bonnet and uses an OEM L/R part (i forget the part number ) But it simply blocks off where the piping for the rear routes though. Thus making the rear completely out of the system. I believe the pipe is around 80 of the finest English pounds.
EDIT - part number is JUE000505Ted

80 quid for the pipe plus the vat plus the regas cant be far off the guy fitting the flex pipes?
I got in my cay today and it was hot very hot, 3/4 mile later it was cool another mile and it was cold, imagine being stuck in the back seats sweating your off
The blocking pipe (JUE000505) is 58 ex VAT then re-gas ontop.Ted

So I had the rear pipes replaced with flexible hosing and system re-gassed for £260 + VAT. All working nicely so fingers crossed it all stays working. The chap pressure tested it for an hour so hopefully it will be ok.
That's not a million miles away form where I normally work so thats handy Ted

Defeated and deflated!
Well feeling crap now, been defeated and unable to fix my AC, and made it worse.
I got myself the blanking off pipe today as I was working near a LR stealer and they had one is stock - £60 spent and then my plan was to swap the pipe over after work and head to get it re-gassed ready for this heat wave next week!
Managed to strip the battery box out and located the pipe to swap, the end near battery unbolted without any issues and I followed the pipe back and this is where it went down hill....
The bolt holding the pipes to the body was corroded and just spinning so I had to rip that out and it's made a bit of a mess - but I thought not a major problem as I can put a nut and bolt through the round hole where the stud has come away.
The bolt into the bulk head end just snapped away as soon as I put my socket on, so now I'm left with a big it of pipe missing!!! Grr! Need to order up the other end at the bulkhead and swap that over - or find someone to do it!!
Another question, people who have done this the selfs what have you done with the old pipes? I can't get access to undo the old bolts so have just cut them for now - but really want them removing.
