It gets used when out off roading quite extensively. It also can be fun on long drives to play with but to be honest the CB freq's are dead or filled with idiots.
Yes, there are a lot of nutters out there. Very occasionally I have a good chat with someone, but mostly I sit there listening to people f+++ing and blinding. It's quite addictive though, I can't turn it off!

used to use am when they first came here in the 80s, was trucking all over Europe then, am was great could really get out a fair distance, then the uk ones came out and for me they are very very poor, distance was usually the truck in front and that was it!gone not forgotten 2 classics
gone forgotten 2 p38s
current d3 se 2006 td standard for now
This is mine, nice neat and discrete. Less discret is the aerial but size matters
Yep, I've got one of those left over from my TD5 days. Looks like you've got a nice set-up complete with the remote fitted, have you set up the hands free as well ?
Where have you parked the main unit ? Wouldn't want to damage the D4 (wife would damage me even more )Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

My old man still bangs on about the GPA 27 monster aerial that I screwed to the chimney pot one day whilst he was at work!
It was like Fylingdales on top of his roof.... Everytime there was a thunderstorm he used to physically shake expecting the house to be blown up by lightning strikes....
He wasn't worried about his sixteen year old son climbing out of his bedroom window and shimmying up the roof however... He stills goes on about the cracked tiles up there!
The memories.....met a right load of old grizzlers though!

edit: for the OP question, i have a Yaesu FT897d installed in my D3, it has a remote head which is mounted to a brodit dash mount. the base unit is in right hand side wasted space in the side pockets. i just took out the plastic scoop and have replaced with a bit of MDF cut to match and sprayed up with a paint that gives a textured panel finish. it doesnt detract.
Will post pics if liked?
Yes please, I'm considering that rig as one of my options.
As far as antenna's go, I was known for my 1/4 wave on top of a 27' mast, with series 1 attached...

Most 4x4's fitted with them are for offroading/greenlaning groups to stay in touch.
You could wire it all into the centre cubby box, and use a mag mount antenna at the rear with the cable plumbed through the interior with a connector somewhere just before it exits through the door or boot as this will make it easier when you dont want it fitted.
My jeeps one is in the centre cubby, albeit it loosely fitted at the moment but it keeps it out of site and still audible FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

That looks really neat but I am greedy in that I know if I start again, I will want AM and sideband as well as FM. I used to have a very naughty 75w burner in the car. Such fun DXing from the tops of hills and talking to folks arund the world.D4 HSE MY2015

Just in case it gives you another idea for mounting, this is where I mounted mine on my D3. Still need to fit it to the D4 but undecided on weather to mount in the same position:
