Replacing a torque converter

Hi all, wonder whether anyone can advise me of the best way to replace a torque converter on a disco 3. Can if be done with the body on? If so, can you give me a guide on how to do this? I have access to a garage and ramp. Do I need any specialized tools which i'd need to source beforehand? Also where is the best place to purchase a reconditioned torque converter?
Cheers

Yawn

Bristol Transmissions do them.

They will supply and fit for about a grand.

But can be done with body on - just drop the gearbox off and replace.

That's a really good price, everywhere else seems to be around £1500 just for the item not including fitting. Are they new or reconditioned?

I spoke to Bristol last week about mine, and they are reconditioned.
They also sell a modified one with the later type friction material for better lock up!

£1000 is about right. I used these guys http://www.autogearboxes.co.uk/about.html who did it with body on, although I have no idea how they reach the bolts at top of housing. Having seen how the refurbishment is done, I cant believe a new TC can be much better. I would not be put off by a good refurbished part.
