You can plan routes on your pc and transfer the route to a gps and follow when in the field. It also gives you a 3D fly through of your routes as well. Plus much more.

Memory Map is BOSS !!!!
I've got the Ordnance Survey for whole country at 1:50000, it lives on the PC, I can plot routes, upload routes & maps onto the iphone (need the app as well) upload routes on my Garmin GPS, look at elevation profiles and the 3D flythrough mode is great.
