Transmission fault.......or contaminated fuel? |
|
Fuelled up at a local Esso garage Friday afternoon. Def put diesel in, about 2/3rds of a tank.
Saturday morning, early drive from Northumberland to Portsmouth.
Totally uneventful drive till 50 minutes from Portsmouth..........in cruise control doing 65, it changed down a cog for an incline and when it went back into 6th, as soon as it changed up, F on the panel and lost power, suspension dropped and I managed to coast to a layby. Gearbox fault on the display.
Nice AA man came, plugged his machine in but found no faults. TBH....he said his machine wouldn't communcate with his laptop. Car would start but run very rough on idle but not rev. He tested the fuel at the valve at the rear of the engine and said 'he thought' he could smell petrol.
Car was to be recovered to Northumberland, but as my wife is disabled and couldn't climb up into the truck, they provided a hire car for 3 days......very good of them I thought.
Got the car back late last night (Monday evening), took 5 different uploads from Portsmouth.
Getting the codes read tonight by a proper 4x4 engineer.....will keep you updated.
I'm hoping it's something that can just be reset. Fuel contamination I think would be a nightmare to prove. Anyone got any experience of how to go about this........a body off and lots of parts being replaced sounds expensive.....is this something my insurers can assist with, I have legal cover?
My truck had its fuel filter changed 2 years ago and had a remap and EGRs blanked by Pete last autumn. I don't think the remap is related cos it's been running as sweet as a nut till this.
Any advice, suggestions, donations please...... 2009 spec D3 HSE

If it was petrol (You have the receipt to prove you did put in diesel ) then as the fuel is pumped around the system continuously, I would doubt it would get that far (200miles??) before you knew something was wrong. Mark.

I suggested that to the AA man, he said the petrol would float on top of the diesel and get picked up as the tank emptied......eh!
Receipt!!! .........fortunately i used the pump nearest the kiosk and cctv, and a good solicitor should be able to request cctv and a copy of fuel delivery receipt at that day/time and exact cost!!
i hope..... 2009 spec D3 HSE
