EGR valves replaced still smoking
Replaced both EGR valves on my Land Rover Discover 3 2007. What a job as never done this before but all good. Took for a run and on the dash engine failure check with small book kept coming on intermittently. Still large amount of smoke on acceleration and like a sucking noise on and off when accelerating guess this is valves opening and closing??
Any suggestions re smoke and warning information as no light has come on saying engine failure. Is this just the new vales getting rid of build up?

Have you read the fault codes since replacing the EGR valves?GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics
I would suggest reading fault codes if you can and if not..... Block the valves off...?
A blanking kit is around £10 and take 15 mins to fit.

Thanks very much for replies
Not read codes as will have to take to garage and they charge me stupid money as we all know. Have checked hoses and the large intercooler pipe on driver side has three large cracks in it.
Have ordered new one to replace.
It is black smoke why would these cracks cause this problem?
Dash still at present coming up with engine system fault would this also be the reason due to cracks in hose?
2007 discovery also so my understanding is I can not blank and also now put on 2 new EGR valves.

Its the cracked hose....
Replace it and you should be OK.
Then go to indy and get the codes cleared

Thanks for this how likely are the other hoses on the intercooler system to be split as sounds like they are a right pain to access?

The fault is present in the pipework after the MAF so the metered air value will not be affected, the PCM will use the MAF sensor output to determine the amount of fuel and injector pulse width necessary to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio. With a leak in the intercooler pipework, air is escaping and the overall effect is a rich condition. The black smoke is unburned fuel.

The larger of the left hand ones is not so bad - difficult to get at if you're just checking but if you want to replace it, it's worthwhile at least. The little one's the real pain and is still on my to do list for when the weather is nicer and I've bottled up enough patience. Thanks again will keep you updated when replaced the driver side. Replacing the other can not be as bad as replacing EGR valves?
Not replaced my EGR valves, only blanked them, so can't fully compare but, yes, I would say it's probably easier.
