Open up the 2nd battery box, the one in front of the driver. If you have a look in there you can see a grommet which gives you access to just under the steering wheel. Will try and find a photo

Someone will be along shortly with the best route through to the bulkhead grommet but I do question the effort for FBH diagnostics.
I find it easier to do it all from the outside even when owners have enabled the OBD port. From the outside you can hear and understand the entire start sequence, check actual temps and even get an educated nose for the correct smell. The inside of the vehicle is just too isolated, even if it does provide protection from the elements.

Slight snap you seem to have a manual - the easy gromit will be filled with clutch rods. Though I think there is another one, but is harder to get to. Butr same general area - but nearer the edge of the car.Mark.

Slightly off topic here but another brain teaser for Robbie
You mentioned the OBD port and FBH. My 05 plate D3 has the red W wire already installed on the FBH plug. Would you know if this is already wired to the OBD port?

Is it possible to use a USB extension instead of going through the bulkhead

Well I cannot account for how individual cars have been modified but as standard the red wire, where fitted, is not connected to the OBD port. The red wire to Pin 2 was deleted from 06-09 cars but is present in cars pre and post these years.
What did I win?
