Had the call today car won't start !!
At work today and had the call from swmbo to say car won't start got HDC fault on dash plus other stuff not sure what , Checked brake switch and bulbs etc all look ok, now waiting for man in yellow van to test battery Good indy i know had a good look over car for me last week as its a recent purchase (2nd D3) And said it looked like it had already had a recent alternator amongst other bits so I'm guessing battery ??, i just got home and it started but any thing else it could be besides ?? would the battery go up and down like this ??

Mine does that sometimes, when I have had my fault reader attached. Normally a couple of tries and then it starts. I let i preheat and it doesn't start, then a quick turn of the key all the way off and then crank it right away, then it starts again.2007 D3 2.7 SE Automatic

Those WMBO do have a habit of not telling the whole story like " I turned the engine on then remembered I had left my handbag in the house and then my mobile rang and I was talking to so and so for 30 minutes and came back to the car and........................" It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
Would not rule out the glowplugs tbh - if you are down a couple or more and outside temperature is down low then even with a healthy battery and alternator you will go nowhere . I am down to 2 working glowplugs and have this problem if its 2 degress or lower . First thing in the morning havig stood overnight foget about starting however leave it an hour when its a toastie 4 degress then no problem starts first time . Once you have fired up initially thereafter throughout the day you will have no trouble starting despite being without a few glowplugs, even if the temperature is below the 2 degrees threshold as sensors have been activated and sense a warm engine .

I've used a hot air gun into the manifold to start a diesel with glow plugs U/S.
Worth a try, even a decent hairdryer could help, just getting the incoming air above freezing will help Stew,

Would fitting a timer on the FBH warming the system up before starting, help the faulty Glow Plug problems lots of peeps seem to be having?? Not sure how much it actually warms the engine if at all.------------------------------

I used to have this problem on an old 2.8 Shogun where the glowplug solenoid burnt out (old idi engine so more reliant on glowplugs than modern di engines).
I would pour 2 or 3 bottles (2 litre bottles) of hot water over the cylinder head and this would obviously run down the block as well.
This was just enough to raise the temperature of the engine to help it fire up.
Alternatively, i have used a Kenlowe electric engine heater and they are good, just plug into the mains for 15 or so minutes and a warm engine and car.
