Theft of quick release tow bar

Hi
I have recently had my locked quick release tow bar stolen from the rear of my Disco 3 and was interested to know if any other owners had suffered this experience.

I spoke to my local Land rover dealership regarding a replacement tow bar and they were aware that the tow bars could be removed with out the keys.

Thanks

Gary

Unfortunately this happens a lot, if you search fleabay you will probably find you can by it back from the person who 'found it'. I always remove mine when not being used.

Welcome to the forum and yes, it is possible to remove the tow bar in seconds.

Mine lives in the garage in a canvas bag as I never do unexpected towing.

Wish I could get mine off, with or without a key , it's been a permanent fixture for several years Shocked

They come up for sale on the forum on a regular basis so either keep your eyes open for one or put a wanted ad up, the forum will also be cheaper than buying it from a dealer or Ebay. When you get your new one make sure you remove it when it's not being used Thumbs Up

I've got one for sale which I bought months ago for my old d3 and since sold the vehicle, I used it once. Drop me a PM if you fancy, it will be in the 'For Sale' section some point this afternoon as my next D3 has a permanent fixed one in place.

I had mine pinched a few months back, I got a replacement from a fellow forum member but I never leave it in place now, it's only fitted when needed.

When I swapped my D3 for a D4 I couldn't get the tow hook off, the Indy used a big hammer and a block of wood to persuade it. Now it's in for the recall thingy on 15th Jan (Q383?), I'm hoping for a new fixed heavy duty jobbie but not holding my breath.

Useful as an anti-tw@t parking aid for others who think 'nudge' parking is acceptable so add a blob of weld once located would stop the scum in their tracks. Think I'd opt for a fixed one if I had a private car again

I had one that I couldn't shift for love nor money, as wanted to fit a fixed tow bar. Some scrote managed to liberate it within 20 minutes though somehow

Theft of quick release tow bar Land rovers response

Hi
I recently submitted a post regarding the theft of my quick release tow bar, this is the response I got from Land rover customers service if you read item no 5. "Currently we are not aware of any other thefts similar to your own" it would appear that I am the only Discovery owner who has suffered this loss.

Dear Mr Killick

I write further to your email dated 1st January 2015.

Having now completed my investigation into the concerns raised in your original email, I can now offer the following. I will respond to each point individually.

1. Land Rover retailers are instructed to make contact with us should they be notified of any thefts of either a particular vehicle, or components fitted to the vehicle. This allows us to review for certain trends and ensure that our vehicles and their components are as safe as possible.

2. When approached by a member of the public with a request to purchase a spare lock and keys, our retailers should be requesting to see proof of ownership of the vehicle in question. If this has not taken place on the occasion in question, I offer my sincere apologies. I have asked Mr Wilcox to ensure that this happens in all circumstances in the future.

3. Whilst Land Rover takes every precaution necessary to prevent thefts, there are some circumstances which are beyond our control. Although I can offer reassurance, and advise that we are constantly reviewing the security of our vehicles and its components in an attempt to prevent thefts from occurring.

4. As mentioned in point number 1, we rely on our retailers informing us when they are notified of thefts by their customers. If this does not happen, we are unable to record every single theft unless we are contacted by the individual who has been the victim of the theft. Not every customer will notify either ourselves or our retailers, some choose to contact their insurer to proceed with a claim on their insurance policy although Land Rover do meet with a group of insurers on a regular basis to discuss data in relation to thefts.

5. Should Land Rover feel that a recall of vehicles is necessary for any reason, we will write to customers of those with affected vehicles to inform them of the reason for the recall, and what action is necessary. Currently we are not aware of any other thefts similar to your own, and therefore there are no plans to issue a recall on that basis.
Please be assured that the details of the theft affecting your vehicle have been passed on to our product and engineering teams for their records. Whilst I realise that this does not completely resolve the matter to your complete satisfaction, I hope that it demonstrates that Land Rover takes the theft of our vehicles and any components extremely seriously.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your views, and if I can be of assistance in the future please do not hesitate to contact me.

Land Rover Customer Relations

Perhaps other victims should take the time to email [email protected] so that he can see what is really going on!!
