They've done some warranty work for me (wheel bearing, bottom arms and steering rack) one ex main dealer and another general mech only a small outfit but done decent job for me
Not sure who's parts they would use for a service though

Depends if it was the sort of customer who knew the difference between britpart and genuine or if it was just done on price.
When they did my wheel bearing I was going to insist on timkin (OEM) but they said that was all they stock as others are false economy so does bode well
If I drive mine gentle on a 15 mile journey to work and back each day I have got it up to 22-23 MPG but if I just drive round the houses then it can go as low as 17mpg especially if I drive it a little more spirited. when I picked it up a 40 mile run from the garage all dual carriageway it gave 27mpg
When I picked mine up after having the new engine, I drove it very carefull and the computer was reading mid/high 30's for some time - though by the time it was due for a fill up it had dropped to below 30 (Computer) and was actually 26mpg for the first tank.Mark.

I've got a calculated 20mpg (indicated 24 on lieometer) for the last 3 months with mainly short local journeys and a fair bit of fbh use.
overall average since I've picked it up in May is 23mpg 😠with a best of 25.6

Try cleaning the map sensor, Made a difference to mine.
Blanked the egr after seeing the crap built up on it
Blanking them would be a good start then. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I'm surprised at how little fuel my manual uses. I went from a V6 petrol Freelander to the Discovery. Over 25K miles, my Freelander averaged 19.3 Mpg. If I drove that in a spirited way, the Mpg would drop to single figures. My Discovery has averaged 25.5 Mpg over the 3000 miles I've done in it so far. That is calculated, not what the computer says. I don't drive like I'm driving Miss Daisy either, I just drive.
I love the Discovery and more than happy with its fuel consumption.Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Expect 18-20 mpg around town, 27 - 28 mpg at 75 on the motorway and 30 - 32 mpg cruising at 60 on motorway with everything working as it should. Auto cars above 10c, below that temp the mpg can drop 10% and above 20c it goes up. My average is 26mpg over 124k with a good few binding brakes, turbo issues and blocked intercoolers. Plus probably 80% cruising at 60mph on motorway.
These are three tonne 4x4s with the aerodynamics of a council house, they are not economical by any shadow of imagination. If anyone needs economy from a D3 then they have bought the wrong car. They do what they do well but you pay for it at the pump.
Oh, and ignore the trip comp, do your own maths. I see loads of posts saying "I got such and such mileage from my D3", I just think "no you didn't".

Over 2 1/2 years and 34k I've averaged 23.4 mpg from my auto.
That takes into account all off road use, towing, daily driving, most of those miles have been done with AT tyres and about 7k with an expo roof rack up as well.
Egr's have been blanked and it's got a upgraded intercooler fitted. Original was clogged solid with mud.
It can creep up past 30 with a long motorway drive, most I've had is 28.5 over a tank.
I've had my display (over)reading 36 on a long motorway run Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I have actually had 36.2mpg (real) on a run from Carlisle to J10 M25. Best result by far. Being warm really helps it. Opposite side of the coin was 8mpg thrashing across the Tunisian desert.
