I owned a LR3 a few years back, it was a 2005 HSE model that had been repossessed. I went through it pretty extensively to get all the water leaks and electrical issues fixed only to discover it had 2 bad diffs so I sold it and lost a few thousand dollars.
Came across another 2005, this one is a one owner SE 5 with 115k miles. The owner is selling it through his cousins used lot so its going to take a few days to get the service records as I didn't see them in the car. Keyless entry isn't working but I've fixed that before, doesn't have a full size spare, rotors look okay, no clunking in the front suspension and it felt pretty good just taking it around the block. Air compressor ran for 55 and 62 seconds the 2 times I raised it from access to high.
I'm hoping the service records will show recent bushing and control arms in the front, and diff fluid service done as well. Its a bit of a strange situation, but going from what the owner of the lot said the trucks owner (his cousin) bought a new LR4 through him as he was able to get it a little cheaper having a dealer license and put the LR3 on his used lot. Well its a Buy Here Pay Here type thing and he doesn't want to finance it because he is afraid that if it breaks down the buyer will just stop paying for it.
I think $6500 will buy it, all but positive $7500 will. At the $6500 I figure for a weekend vehicle its hard to gone wrong. My biggest concern is the differentials.
So you guys think a guy can go wrong with a 2005 for ~$6500
