Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I don't loose any power and it doesn't drive any differently. The car just emits a short scrape when coming off the accelerator. It seem to constantly scrape above 50/60mph when cruising.

Hi OllyMidd

Did you ever figure out what the noise was? I have the same and it seems to be getting worse as in more often etc.

Cheers

Are you sure it's a metallic scrapping noise. Does it also sound like ia sharp intake or expulsion of air?

It sounds like a metallic reverberation, the LR mech said it was a 'dump valve on the turbo' but I am not convinced...

Think I may have the same. Thought it was time for a new TC. LR said what I thought was a scrape was infact the fluid moving about through the TC. They pointed me towards a garage that will change some seals somewhere. Sorry. That's as much as I know. They said it had worked a treat for a few other cars.
Not had time to go to said garage to let them listen to my car...

I have this scraping noise when I lift the throttle. Lasts about a second. Did anybody ever work out what is was. Probably just impending doom, nothing more serious Laughing

Since I contributed to this thread I have seen others suggest that the noise in torque converter related. But several of those posting have had it for years and no impact upon the drive just the noise when lifting off accelerator. Edit: could also be autobox

Thanks for that Barn1e. It would be interesting to know of anyone who had the "noise" before a new TC, then it dissevered afterwards.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated!

It sounds more mechanical than anything but I will definitely check for simple solutions tomorrow! Every time I come off the throttle when accellerating for more than 5 seconds (approx) it will hake this grinding sound for about a second.

It will then be a recurring (pulsing) scraping when accelerating in a particular fashion. Not all the time however. It's very frustrating!!

And don't start me on judder, it's just coming back! Sad

Hi Buddy, mine is doing exactly the same, bought the bus back in feb had an issue with hi /low ratio ended up putting a replacement transfer box on for that issue (clutch had shook a six) now im experiencing this lost drive issue occasionally, sounds bad just like a ducati clutch basket if you have ever heard one, anyway, nothing has come up on diagnostics electronically, local guy had contacted autologic they suggested hydraulic or mechanical, I feel mechanical can be nearly eliminated as its intermittent and then runs fine, with no frequency to it at all, just as it fancies!!, changed all the linkage as many posts on the selector, no resolve so checked autobox oil level, somehow had about 2.5liters too much in, no other system found to be adding to it as other levels had not dropped as yet, problem still present. my thoughts now are mega flush and DR Tranny, then see from their. sound like yours?/ or anyone else have anything to suggest??? Cheers.

Hello there,
Well Tony (our 2005 D3) and I lived with that type of growling/crunching for about 18 months. The big guy had to be abandonned at a 4x4 indy in the southern Alpes (thankfully, not too far from home, big T does not like being alone). TC is beyond repair, lots of metal bits... On my way to get a Transfer Case from Bristol Transmission (a choice based on the forum's recommentation) installed in old Tony.
Thus, act quickly before it is too late.

Cheers,

Oli

The noise started on mine after the torque converter was changed.

Mine is said to be the torque converter. I’ve had the car for 9 years and it’s not been a problem apart from the noise
