6HP auto fault codes P0783 3-4 shift and P0730 Incorrect gea

So, have a screwed the auto box?

New to me, MY09 D3 TDV6 HSE, 200,000km on it. Slight shudder in the auto when driving. So I:
Removed the original plastic sump and filter
Replaced the mechatronic seal
Fitted a new metal sump, gasket and filter
Squirted in a tube of Dr Tranny Shudder Fix
Refilled with genuine ZF LifeGuard 6 ATF (including with the vehicle running and ATF temp between 30 - 50*C as shown on the GAP Diagnostic IID Tool)
Used GAP Diagnostic IID Tool to reset shift adaption values

First test drive and the shudder is gone, the transmission is smooth and everything works well, until a transmission error not the dash giving limited low gears and the following fault codes read on the GAP Diagnostic IID Tool:

Quote:
Transmission

P0783-64 (AF) 3-4 shift - Algorithm based failure - signal plausibility failure
( on 13-06-2024 21:39:42 at 202982 km )
P0730-00 (2E) Incorrect gear ratio
( on 13-06-2024 21:48:51 at 202984 km )

If I accelerate hard up to highway speed, so that the vehicle skips 3 and 4 gears, then there is no faults. But normal driving when 3 and 4 are used continually causes these faults.

From what I've read it seems that perhaps reseting the shift adaption values on a well used and worn transmission may have been the upsetting factor? I assume there is no way to restore the cleared adaptions?

I have access to a complete, used but good working condition, valve body and solenoid pack from an equivalent year and engined RRS. I thought maybe worth fitting this along with new genuine ZF valve body seals and adapter seal block? I'd need to reprogram the transmission mechatronic unit to the vehicle though I think? But I believe that can be done via GAP Diagnostics Fast Lane Service (ECU Flash)?

My hope was to extend the transmissions life out a few years (30,000 - 50,000km more would be ideal).

You don't reset the adaptions unless you change any hardware in the trans, when i got the P0730 incorrect gear ratio error code i fitted a sonnax zip kit and new solenoids which fixed it.

Yeah, I seem to have stuffed up there resetting the adaptions. I was thinking back to the old 90's era BTR four speeds in Falcons which liked to have it done...

I might add the Zip Kit into the mix too then! Now to work out which is the correct kit for this application - if I recall correctly these are the ZF 6HP26 box.

EDIT: I think it's Sonnax Zip Kit ZF6-053-ZIP https://www.sonnax.com/parts/4379-zip-kit
I'll hopefully pick up the other valve body and solenoids tomorrow and can then use their identification guide at https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/249-...tion-guide to confirm.

Will I also need/want a new separator plate too when doing the Zip Kit? https://www.sonnax.com/tech_resources/179-...tion-chart or is this not disturbed when fitting the Zip Kit?

Then there's also the TransGo Shift Kit offerings like SK 6R80-A https://transgo.com/product-details/6r80-gen1-shift-kit/ which is listed as fixing at least one of these error codes:

Corrects/Prevents/Reduces:

Gear ratio codes: P0731, P0732, P0733, P0734, P0729
Shift error codes: P0781, P0782, P0783, P0784, P0829
28-46 MPH TCC shudder due to TCC regulator malfunction
Erratic pressure due to PR valve malfunction
Soft or long shifts
TCC slip
Coast downshift clunk

Definitely need the separator plate if you are splitting the valve body, the zip kit is better than the transgo kit as its more comprehensive.

try driving the car carefully for a few days. it will relearn the adaptions

Unfortunately driving the vehicle carefully is difficult to do as it won't shift from 3-4 and then the vehicle enters fault limp mode with the transmission restricted to only the first three gears. Even with the GAP Diagnostic IID Tool plugged in and resetting the fault while driving causes repeated fault immediately after clearing.
Driving hard with acceleration in the lower gears to cause it to skip 4th gear works fine.

I have a full valve body, solenoid and mechatronic setup from an MY09 D3 2.7 TDV6 here now - apparently it's from a wreck whose transmission was rebuilt 60,000km ago. It has the A052 OE Valve Body Code on the plate so would seem to require:
Zip Kit ZF6-6R60-ZIP https://www.sonnax.com/parts/3052-zip-kit
Valve Body Separator Plate 95740-052 https://www.sonnax.com/parts/2669-valve-body-separator-plate

Hopefully tomorrow I will pull out my current valve body and compare. I'm wondering if I can swap the original units black plastic mechatronic unit onto the new valve body and solenoids to avoid needing the code to the vehicle?

if the box was ok before you reset it, it will learn. takes a few days and lots of resetting. if you change the valve body and module you dont need to code anything

If that's the case it would be brilliant and certainly solve the situation, but I'm uncertain as to how the vehicle will learn to adapt when it's currently unable to/unwilling/not shifting from 3-4 at all - surely it actually needs to achieve a gear change in order to adapt it?

I swapped an autobox out of a donor into one of mine at Xmas and didn’t need to code anything? Runs spot on and covered 10k since.
