Cleaning EGR Valves
Gday All,
I have a 2008 TDv6 which every 20,000ks I clean the inlet Y piece. I tried to blank the EGR valves with not much success, so re-installed the pipework and the butterfly.
So far I haven't had the dreaded EGR problems, but its only a matter of time, so my question is
Has anyone cleaned thee EGR vavles and if so was it successful or should I leave sleeping dogs lie.
Car now has 120,000ks on it.

You have not said why your EGR blanking failed?
I've used EGR spray with good results but arguably the most common failure mode is mechanical and no amount cleaning will put the metal back together.

The blanking was very intermittent, the car would be fine for a few days then it would go into limp mode with fault codes. I would clear the codes and it might be good for a while then it would fault code every 30mins, then not for a day.
It just got to difficult to continue driving that way.
See now you can get a software update to fix it but I am looking at trying another way first and see if it works.
