Background whining noise over 20mph accelerating with speed. |
|
Hi, I'm sure this has been posted before but cant find anything similar......have a background whining noise which comes in over 20mph accelerating and de-accelerating with speed. doesn't appear to go off when turning left or right and drowns out over 60mph. Cars done 89K. Have checked the tyres and they look ok. Does it sound like wheel bearings or something else???

Can you also feel a gentle buzz type vibration through the steering wheel at 30-40 under acceleration? Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

my 07 D3 has just started to exhibit a drone/whoosing noise at speed. Can replicate when stationary. Has only started now that the mornings are cold and the FBH has kick in. Could they be related- the battery is well down and think it could be the alternator under load and on the way out. Noise does disappear when the car is totally warmed up. Anyone got any ideas on this?

No, haven't noticed anything else. My hearing's been fixed on this drone noise to be fare. The sound doesn't change when I apply brakes but it does change very so slightly depending on road surface. I had a Ford Kuga(58 plate) from new and put on 140K and it started to make a similar noise. Will put it down to wheel bearings and see where we go from there.

I get a drone at 70-80mph which I am pretty sure is wind noise on the top of the windscreen.
Sounds like yours may be a wheel bearing(?)
