Water in Drivers footwell |
|
I have seen many posts about water in the passengers footwell, and leaking sunshine roofs.
I have water in the drivers footwell, suddenly this weekend. I have not been through any decent puddles, let alone floods, for weeks, and the car has never leaked before in 66k miles.
Only unusual activity in the last week was fitting a new fuel filter !

Our D3 keeps getting a flooded driver footwell. I lost hours cleaning out and checking the sunroof and it's drain pipes, without solving the problem.
Eventually discovered there appears to be a break in the bonding between the windshield and body that is letting a small amount of water through, which runs along the inside of the headlining, down the a-pillar trim and onto the drivers footwell. The leak is actually above the passenger side though!
I have some decent sealant stuff to try but can't decide whether to put it on the inside or the outside. If I do the inside, I won't need to worry so much about making a mess but I may just end up with water sitting between the glass and the bodywork causing corrosion - if I go for the outside I've got to try and get it in without smearing it all over the glass/bodywork. So far I've not plucked up the courage to try either! Cheers,
Gareth

I had this issue on the passenger side, thought it was the screen because it only started leaking after the screen was replaced.
Turns out after many hours looking into this issue, my sunroof drain hose on the passenger side had rotted just where it pops out through the wing.
Replaced it the other week and the car is bone dry now.
Check the sunroof drain pipes on both sides. Dale

You can also check the covers for the A-pillar themselves. They pop-on with fasteners which have rubber rings on them. After time these rings perish.
I also found a missing fastener so there was a big hole with nothing to prevent water coming in.
You can buy a kit with new fasteners/rubbers and some patches to cover the holes that are left over.
Was from LR and cost around €15,--

I should have said in my OP that there's no sunroof.
I have concentrated on windscreen & A Pillar, can't se anything yet.
I wonder why would these might suddenly start leaking after six years & 66k miles?

I had the same thing last year, Nigel.
No obvious leaks from anywhere although there was a slight break in the drip seal where it is stuck to the body, immediately above the NSR door. Might be worth checking the integrity of the drip seal (the long rubber seal that runs from the bottom of the A pillar all the way round to just in front of the rear wheels)?
You need to lift the carpet and extract as much of the water as possible using a sponge. You will then need to try and get as much water as possible out of the absorbent backing/soundproofing under the carpet.
The drain holes under the scuttle trim may be blocked. Worth a look?

A top tip I saw someone else post on here was to put some unscented cat litter in a sock in the car to absorb the moisture. I've gone a step further and filled an old pillow case with it to try and absorb up as much as possible... Not sure how successful it is yet. Cheers,
Gareth

Very puzzling...
I could not find where water got in, so dried carpets out and since then no further dampness.
I think that it can only have come from me leaving the NSF window 1" open whilst away from the car for a couple of hours; dry when I left but pi ed for the last 30 minutes I was away.
I just could believe so much water could have collected in that time. I dried the seat & door car with a cloth, & left the footwell rubber mat to try naturally with the heater on.
Thanks everyone for their posts - All's well that ends well.
