FBH

So here goes..

Winter is here and this morining -4 car wont start.. I havent yet figured out if the glow plugs are working properly but if there not i dont fancy paying the masive bill to replace them anyway.

All apears fine with the glow plug light and it stays on for 5 seconds then goes out, i even do it five or more times but still no joy.

So my mext step is to see if i can get the FBH working so i can buy a bell remote and fit that. At present i cant get the FBH to fire up. I have tried the normal way by starting the engine with it below 4 deg and the thing aint working.

Next i tried rigging it direct to my computer with the free webasto software still notihng no reposne.

My last attempt before i rip it out and bin it is trying to start it thorugh my SDD software and if this is possible can someone point me to a step by step... Big Cry

I should mention that i have the early D3 with the red wire. I also inadvertintly flashed mt dash back to a firmawre that still has the pre heat setting so it can be set on a timer to start.. Is this also a good or bad thing ? Mr. Green

Have you got plenty of fuel in the car? As I understand it they don't kick in unless you have more than quater a tank.?

Hi guys,

Yes i have tried the fuse out trick and also have a full to the brim tank. I have found the Auxilery heater priming routine option in the SDD software and i have gave that a run ill have to wait intill its below 4 deg to see if that has had any joy

Mine refused to start a couple of years back, but I found clearing the lock out fault code got it working again, and it has been very reliable up until recently both with BAS controller and without. I found the deal from Duckworths for a new FBH for £150 delivered, too reasonable to ignore, but refuse to fit it until original FBH is well and truly non operational Laughing

At leas a new one is not to bad price wise.. I cant even get a response from the thing at all, even when tryin to connect directly to it the Webasto program just says not connected even though it is with all of the ports correct and also the wires checked a million times. Its got me going round and round.. I think it maybe just completley Censored Big Cry

Chris i had similar 2 weeks back the BAS unit is intelligent so fault clears pre re start so should sort any fault codes .keep trying mine took 3,days before she would hold a flame once its done it run it as long as possible ie dont start the car and let the auto start logic. Shut it down it not below -6

Leave it a couple days as you may have residue fuel "flooding" the chamber

I jumped in too quick and bought a new FBH from duckworth but its now still in the box as mines running every time now be patient

Just so you are aware, that price is a one off from Duckworths, (if they indeed have any left). They are normally approx 4 times that price from what I have heard.
You could do as Mark suggests above, but you would obviously have to buy and fit the FBHIC first. Wink........whether you want to do that? I don't know.

Thanks for all the input guys.. Ill definitely play around with it for a good a few more days before i look into replacing it. At the moment i can't get it to show any signs of life at all not even so much as a clicking or response from any form of software talking to it.

It has a power going to it ill and i did manage to run the SDD program in it so ill give it a try in the morning when its cold enough and see of she fires up Banging Head

Have a look at the webasto manual on this thread thanks to Robbie Bow down

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post1381609.html#1381609

Specifically tells you how to reset the FBH (there is more to it than just removing fuse once Wink )

Also check drivers are ok for obdII cable to get WTT to run

and/or try pin 4 rather than pin 5 for the negative supply to obd cable Thumbs Up

I assume you are using an obd2 to USB adapter and then going onto the necessary pins. If so, are you getting a flashing light on the obd2 part showing it is powered up? Strange you can't get a connection?

The only sure way I can get my usb/obd connector to start communicating is to connect all the wires, start communication on WTT software, unplug the (think) 8 pin plug from the webasto and then reinsert. The WTT software then starts its interaction.

The red wire needs to go onto pin 7 (K line)

Useful pictures here

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic85217.html

Try connecting up the obd2 bits first then plug the usb into the computer. That way, the obd2 is powered up first. Don't forget to let the car go to sleep first. I take it you have power to the fbh itself and no dodgy fuse issue?

Have you read the IanNP stuff. http://disco3.co.uk/forum/post616222.html#616222

chris

use some freeze spray on the outside temp sensor or remove it and chuck it in the freezer for 20 mins

this should shorten the time to diagnose Thumbs Up

i think robbie posted location info before ,from memory i think he said its mounted behind the front grill

but do a search im sure you will find it
