Correct battery/alternator voltage??

Since having the HDC fault I have checked my battery with a draper battery tester and it came up with an amber light saying 12.v

With the engine running the alternator light was amber 13.5 low I have been doing a few short trips to work so it could be the battery or is more likely the alternator?

A simple search of the forum would tell you your alternator is not up to scratch. Rolling Eyes
It's a well documented issue and problems because of it can be varied. You'll be surprised which niggley little problems suddenly vanish if you replace the alternator.

Alternator should put out approx 15.2 volts on first start of the day and gradually drop back to 13.2 volts depending on usage and duration of driving the vehicle as it gradually charges the battery.

Looks like your alternator is on its way out if only max at 13.5 volts. Once alternator failure you get the light on the dash and then the battery starts to drain so if this happens then be quick to disconnect your battery and make sure your doors are unlocked.

Replacing alternator not that difficult but would also put in a new battery aswell as rule of thumb.

Do not be tempted to buy an alternator from Eurocarparts as they cause all sorts of issues including overcharging instead got Advance Factors (site sponsors) or Island 4x4 who I used and good price.

Hope this helps, but will be plenty of members on here will have more advice.

A word of caution, not every D3 owner gets the light on the dash with an alternator failure, most report nothing at all before their pride and joy grinds to a halt. Wink
