Yesterday I got the dreaded EML accompanied by sluggish acceleration and a quick waz on a mate's diagnostic has revealed the nearside EGR was the culprit.
Today the motor is running perfectly and the light has cleared, so the $64000 question is could it have been a transient fault or should I bite the bullet and replace/blank? It's post 07, so blanking would be an expensive option (cost of emulators) when compared to replacing a single valve.

this is how it started on my 07, so I started running with some 2 stroke oil in the diesel... this helped a bit, I also blanked the egr's... the eml came on occasionally still but no lose of power...
when the motor on the end of the egr cannot cycle from open to closed it will bring up the eml...
So I got a used egr from ebay, took the motor off and connected it up in place of the failed egr and since then no eml (3000+ miles) Admin on Facebook Discovery 3 & 4 Ownersgroup

I have blanked mine 07> and all is well at the minute. Mine were working fine before but will no doubt end up in the same position as OP at some point. Is it possible to remove the valve motor from the egr's in situ and leave them plugged in thus problem solved? I have never had one apart so not sure if gases would escape from the valve movement system once the motors are removed?
The idea to blank and fit just used egr motors seems a good idea if the above can't be done.

I have a MY2008 and have also blanked them - runs really well now (I actually used 2p to blank them ), I do get the EML, it comes on after about 5 or 6 dives, but I then remove the fault and EML with my IID tool
My advice would be to blank them and see how you get on with the light - some never see the light come on Iggy/Ieuan

Due to how difficult it is to get at the egr's on 07+ models (mine are bolted from the rear so no chance of getting them off without major component removal 👎) I had a go at taking the motor off in situ but there is not enough clearance to with draw it from the EGR body before it hits the timing belt cover...
I think it would leak some exhaust gas too looking at the design but there is a plastic insert that connects the motor to the egr valve, if you could get the motors off in situ, remove this from the motor, bolt it back up it would be a job well done as there would be no gas escaping and nothing restricting the motor from performing its cycle from open to closed
If you do try to source motors they need to be from 07 onwards EGR's...
Chances are someone on here will have removed faulty/stuck or sticking EGR's and may let you have them for the cost of postage to experiment with Admin on Facebook Discovery 3 & 4 Ownersgroup
