Sudden Slow Down With ash Board Lit Up Like a Christmas Tree

Hi Guys,

We have a Disco 3 2006 (56). We are having a problem when you pull out to over take. So we are driving along and all is well on the dashboard. When we want to overtake we indicate and pull out and put our foot down on the accelerator pedal to get more speed. The dashboard sudden lights up like a Christmas tree with all sorts of warnings and the vehicle starts to slow down so much so that you end up at about 30-20 mph. The vehicle has also lower it self down to its lowest setting.

The dash board has a number of warnings including HDC failure, Park Brake failure.

If you stop the vehicle, turn off the engine, take your key out. Let all the dash go out. Put your key back in and turn back on the vehicle will drive OK again.

This is a little dangerous as it is not nice to suddenly lose power when trying to overtake when something is coming towards you. Sad

Any ideas?

Any ideas - one big one, try LR Assist or your dealer rather than us lot "guessing" on a forum Wink

Seriously could be loads of things and nobody will get it spot on without diagnostics.

On a less serious note - sounds like it could be the fact you have either, more than one driver, or you are sharing feet "we put our foot down" Rolling with laughter

Big John Thumbs Up

How often is this happening or was this a one off ?

Agree with Simon if it was a one off , you need to check the brake light bulbs.

Had this happen to me whilst towing the tintent , all the warning lights/messages etc.. and reduced power. Pulled off at the next junction and switched off/on and all was fine.
Got home and checked the bulb and it had blown. Replaced and touchwood no probs since. Very Happy

The initial blow of the filament seems to affect the electronics Shocked

Have you had the P008/P017 recalls carried out? this sounds like classic symptoms of HP fuel pump failure

I have just had this exact same issue with mine. Turns out to have been an old and unchanged fuel filter.
Id be happily driving along and then two bongs dashboard would light up and then HDC failure, suspension lowered and zero power to the engine. Id wait a minute then start up and it would be ok(isn) then do it again.

Took it to a local specialist (LR Centre in Speke nr Liverpool) plugged diagnostics into the car no real issues then he said I think it may be a fuel filter starving the engine of good clean fuel at higher revs.

Changed it and no probs since. I did change the brake light switch before but that did not help.

Give is a go only cost £55.00

I had similar symptoms, it turned out the Steering angle sensor was out of alignment, needed calibrating. Have you had wheel alignment done recently, or work on the suspension.

Exactly the same as mine. As suggested earlier, it was the High Pressure Fuel Pump at fault.

hi,

Have been hit by similar issues. Never in the first 70/80km after a cold start but then its game on. Engine goes in limping mode, htc fault, transmission fault, car drops, etc. Turning off the ignition resets all problems and off i go again. However once it has happened the fault returns exponentionally until you only can go 500m before it returns. Next day; no problem for the first 70km.

Dealer can't find anything. Nothing shows up on the laptop even when in limping mode. Have called in lr netherlands but nothing found so far. Its a 2007 hse diesel.

Done so far:
- brake light switch
- brake light bulbs
- check brake light wiring and connectors
- new battery and new alternator (solved the problem for 2000km, can be a coincident)
- new fuel pressure switch
- check wiring, connectors and computers whereever they are on the car
- new fuel filter

Good news is that when changing the akternator i asked them to also change the distribution belt and while at it the oilpump cover. Turned out the tensioner was faulty and that could have been costly.

Bad news is that i still don't know what it is. Hp fuelpump is an expensive one. Any other ideas?
Rgrds,

Mies
