SRS Warning light permenantly on - now sorted

Sorry if this gets a bit long winded but I want to give as much information as possible. I have recently purchased a 2007 TDV6 Auto with 140,000 on the clock and full service history, main dealer up to 70,000 and a "specialist independent" since. When I bought it I knew that the temperature gauge was not working and a bit of examination with a scanner showed that the problem lay within the instrument cluster, so off the instruments went to Cluster Repairs who reported that it appeared that the temp gauge had been damaged when somebody had gone into the instrument cluster to butcher the SRS led Evil or Very Mad . Cluster repairs were able to repair both problems but now I have a working temperature gauge and a glowing SRS light.

I have scanned for codes and get the following

B00D2 - Restraint system malfunction indicator 1
U0155 - Lost communications with instrument cluster
U0122 - Lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module
B1A00 - Control module

When I try to clear the fault codes I get the following message Clear Codes Failed (RC=0x22).

I am using a Snap-On Solus Ultra with the latest software and I can read live data from the SRS, all airbag resistances are in the 2.2 -2.3 Ohm range, seat sensors, passenger airbag on/off light, passenger airbag on/off switch, door position switches, etc. all appear to be working properly.

Has anyone experienced something similar and found a solution?,

I have read elsewhere that there was a Land Rover TSB regarding some SRS modules that locked up and the only solution was a new module and programming but looking at the TSB the affected chassis numbers were quite a bit older than mine.

Thanks for the suggestion I will have a look in the daylight tomorrow but wouldn't dodgy connectors show up as high resistance in the airbag or pre-tensioner circuits?

How did you get on with this. My ELM327 couldnt read the airbag faults although the connectors under the seat would tally as the sprog was showing off to a mate and winding the eccy seats all the way back and foward.

Ive done some searching but I cant work out. Is it the connector on the base of the seatbelt that comes away or is it the other end. I couldnt for the life of me work out how to get the seatbelt end off? I didnt want to force it.

Can you do this with the seat in situ? And how does that front black blanking pannel come off at the front of the seat?

^^ +1 for Wiggs response - check the connectors under the front seats. I had a similar issue, was simply solved by opening and closing the loom connections to ensure a good contact.

Four Torx screws fasten the whole seat pan down, it then lifts off Thumbs Up . The panel comes off with a very hefty tug towards the peddles, same clips as the "H" trim on the centre console Thumbs Up
Always good practice when moving the seats max travel to raise them first.

Just a quick update, I have spent the last couple of days on and off tracing wires and checking connectors with no sign of any problems and no sign of the warning light going out - thanks to M3DPO for the suggestion of removing the seat base, it certainly makes it easier to check the wiring and connectors under the seat with confidence.

For those of you who have not yet had the pleasure of examining the wiring under the driver's seat I have included a couple of pictures.








I have now had the car on a genuine Land Rover diagnostic computer and get exactly the same fault codes and again they cannot be cleared, their diagnostic technician has advised that the fault code 'B1A00 - Control module' indicates that it is the SRS ECM that is goosed, so it looks like the next job is to replace that, they have quoted £570 to fit it and program it to the vehicle as apparently they have to be paired with the specific car.

Further update to follow when I eventually sort the problem, in the mean time any further advice would be most welcome

Mine is forever doing this or something like it.

I remove the airbag fiddle with the wires and the light might stay off for a month or 2 days.

My local Land Rover dealer can't find the problem Rolling Eyes

I have learned to live with it.

The SRS ECM usualy self destructs (LR term to persuade you to buy new) when an air bag or seat belt has been fired. They can infact be reset for a nominal fee (£90ish) try http://www.airbagsforsale.com they are based ar Hinkley, Liec. They do a 48hr postal service on most ECU's. Thumbs Up

Time for an update on this as I have had time to do some research and made some progress that might be of use to others.

First regarding repairing the SRS ECM, I have contacted several people regarding this including airbagsfor sale.com and they all say that they can only repair ECM's that have locked up due to crash data being stored after an airbag or pretensioner has been deployed - this was not the case with mine.

I have now fitted a second hand ECM with matching part numbers and version numbers and although I still have an airbag warning light on, my scanner will comunicate with the ECM and can clear the fault codes although only temporarily.

The fault codes that I now have are

B002A - Right curtain deployment control 2 and
B0022 - Left curtain deployment control 2

When I clear them the airbag warning light goes out until I switch the ignition off and then back on again at which point the SRS system presumably does a self test and puts the fault codes back on again.

Has anyone come across these codes before and can give me any clues where to look for the problem, I have checked connections in the A pillars and they seem OK.

Some srs components are coded, it may be the curtain bags are. Or it may be the curtain bags where or were not programmed to the replacement ecu at time of installation to the original vehicle.
9 out of 10 when a control unit registers an internal fault, replacement is the only way to go. Also
9 out of 10 second hand control units never work as they are either coded to a specific chassis number or the car they are from is or programmed for diffeant equipment.

I just thought that I would close this out with how the problem was resolved in case my experience helps others. As other people on here have mentioned it proved impossible to get a second hand unit to work despite the claims of a couple of prominent companies on the web who claimed to be able to clone my old unit to the replacement or to be able to remove crash codes neither were successful.

I therefore bought a new Land Rover part at a cost of around £380 and fitted it, this then needed to be configured to my car before it would work as there is only one part number for the SRS ECM but different models, particularly American spec cars, have a range of different sensors and the ECM needs to be configured to suit the sensors and airbag types present in the car.

For those of you thinking of replacing one yourself it is located directly under the cubby box bolted to the floor in between the front seats and although removing the centre console can be a bit fiddly it is relatively straight forward. One piece of advice would be that most how-to guides suggest removing the two rear screws holding the centre console down last, in my experience it makes it easier if, before you disconnect the battery you motor the seats forward to remove the rear screws then motor the seats most of the way rearwards to give yourself some working room in the front seats and then disconnect the battery before following the remaining instructions. Also when refitting the console it is easier on automatics if you unbolt the gear selector from the floor and leave it free to move slightly before trying to refit the centre console.

Note in my case the car would drive with the new ECM fitted, although SRS warning lights were showing, making it feasible to replace the ECM and then take it to someone with the right equipment to configure the new ECM.

As always thanks to everyone on here who offered suggestions.
