EGR blanking early 7a chassis help |
|
My disco is a 7a chassis but first registered December 2006. Mine is also an SE but I have seen a lot of 2007 cars using the gs or xs trim names. I have read some early 2007 cars can be blanked with no issue just like 05/06 ones but does anyone know when the software was altered etc. I have an iid tool if it helps so could look up the current firmware version.
Any help appreciated as I really want to blank but can't stretch to emulators. I would like to avoid a suck it and see situation as SWMBO complains enough as is

Mines an 07 7a & had egrs blanked a couple of months ago. No light on dash at the moment but believe it could come on at some point? Think there are other good reasons for fitting the emulators - no doubt someone with more knowledge will confirm
You could blank them just after MOT so worst case you've got a year to save up?

Mine is a January 2007 build , blanked the egr,s and all ok except for a PO104 code or similar that says " excess egr flow " Been like this for 2500 Klm now and all good . Suspect the PO1 reading is from the Maff reading a greater air flow when the egrs should be open and the butterfly closed , Also no Mil Light either .

Now we are talking. Have you noticed any improvement in mpg?
I know with these cars being so complex that altering one thing effects another and full emulation or software patch is way to go but just can't justify the spend.

Mine has P0402 Exhaust gas recirculation flow excessive detected.
It doesn't keep me awake at night
Haven't noticed better mpg but my egrs hadn't failed before blanking.

Slight improvement in Mpg , and better pick up , The code was P0402 as above . At the start I used to clear the p0402 code but it would just come back in a few days , so just left it in ecu , it just stores the one code not cumulative been that way 4 about 8 months . I am pretty sure the egr,s need to working for the above scenario .

I have an October 06 MY07 and I blanked the EGRs and had no EML appear for a year or so, then as soon as one of the EGRs packed up I got the EML light and was faced with the option to emulate or replace. I chose emulation as the long term solution. -------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes that can happen I believe , same thing happened to a guy in Oz with an early 2007 build and all he did when the egr failed was to plug a new egr on the egr plug , and left the failed blanked egr in place , just tucked the new working egr on the end of the electric control plug out of the way . And all was back to normal , sort of like an emulator I suppose , I carry 2 new egr,s in case this happens to me .

Thanks for all the replies.
Do you think the egr's pack up sooner when blanked? I was thinking about squirting oven cleaner into them couple of times a year after blanking but probably not a helpful idea
