I'm with Russell on this, the ones near me in Dunstable seem to take great delight in blocking a one-way street near me at about 8am every week. If I spot the queue in time, I can avoid that road, but not always possible. Once stuck behind them, you really get to watch them take their time with each bin and ignore plenty of opportunity to pull over and let the long time of cars past.
I appreciate they have a job to do, but surely they've got to also have a little bit of understanding for the rest of us?

I wouldn't condone blocking of emergency services ...but if you knew they were on the same road at the same time every week then go another way

I've just lost all understanding and sympathy I had,on hearing they won't move,even for a fire engine in blues and twos....

DG - no we are not the ones who will drive on the pavement, and are NOT supporting the ones who do. What we are saying that a bit of common sense would go along way. If there is nowhere for the bin truck to pull over, then fine, we wait whilst the guys do their job, but if there is space, then pull over, let the waiting traffic past and carry on crossing the road with due care and attention with the bins. Its not hard - as you said, first world problems.

Al I agree totally and despite my quarrelsome stance I know that some are animals with perhaps a deserved reputation.

Bin men have no special power that allow them to block the road. Clearly I do not condone those that drive on the pavement but the root cause is the attitude of these bin men.
Our local bin men are great - polite, courteous, friendly and professional. I just cannot imagine them driving down the middle of the road like those in the footage.
