Retro fit CC in a non CC D3 |
|
Hi all. I'm looking at getting an S D3. Now being a budget version, it doesn't have cruise control. I'd like to know if it's possible to fit the switches and possibly have the CC activated. I'm assuming it's all done in the engine ECU.
Any help would be useful.
Thanks.

If it really is a D3 S it should have cruise control fitted as standard.
Be aware that some D3 base models left the factory with the wrong badge on the back:

I upgraded my 08 GS with cruise control and audio switches (new switches were around £88 from LR dealer) some time ago without any issues.
The process of upgrading is well documented on this site but basically involves removing the airbag module from the steering wheel, removing and unplugging the old blank switch packs and replacing with the new switch packs then replacing the airbag. The airbag needs some care when handling but doesn't need to be disconnected, just moved out of the way. Sensible precautions when handling the airbag should be observed, battery disconnected and leave things to discharge for 30 mins or so before you start.
The audio switches will work without activation but the cruise control will need to be activated using something like Faultmate, you will find a friendly local forum member with the right kit who can do this. Member local to me did it for £20.
Very cost effective and worthwhile upgrade to the lower spec. vehicles. Search this site and you'll find all the info you need.

Thank you. Very useful link. I've see lots of 2005 "S" D3's without cruise. By this information, I guess these are base 7 seaters incorrectly badged.

Excuse me if this sounds stupid. On reading nearly all threads on this, I assume that the system is already on the car and I would just need to buy the switch, plug it in and get it programmed and I'm good to go!
Does this work on MY57 manual?
