OEM Rear Ladder Fitting
Well, as the weather forcast was wrong this weekend, and catching me out enough to stop me Building a garage, I thought I would tackle the ONLY job left with my D3.
The OEM Rear Ladder
1. Remove the inner trim from the top door, to do this, dont rush as the clips can break. The clips are different on screen edge, and poppers on the door edge. Remove screw from door puller and remove the trim from the door latch edge.
2. Remove Light unit. Three bolts inside the door, and four torq screws on door edge. Unplug multiplug electrics, and remove.
3. Drill Holes One and five to 9mm, and fit RivNuts. On the light unit remove the clips that fit into these holes
4. Apply Waterproof gasket to the Lower ladder section that bolts to the light unit area, and apply the the sticky pad to the top hook part . Bolt to the RivNuts, ensure not to overtighten as RivNuts are tosh
5. Replace Light Unit in reverse, remember to connect electric Multi plug, and then replace the interior trim
6. And the most important job by far, is this
Anti Slip tape, its definately a Must
All done

I wont ask........................................Having fell off my work ladder last year and hang by my foot, it aint worth the risk. The tape is industrial and very tacky, seems upto the job, and a glossy reflection off the granules, so does'nt look out of place anyway
Got ya PM, so will drop the relevant strips in the post early next week

Hi,
I purchased a used ladder, and will be doing the same job in a week or two.
Could you scan the instructions for me ? also interested in the parts lists as I am missing these too.
How does the ladder attach at the top ? and this sticky pad where does that go I though about using a rubber gasket and some double sided tape.
Cheers
Glen

Then box 2 "Accessory fitting instructions" - it's at the bottom of the box
Then "continue"

I only "clamped" it between the Tailgate handle...
Since it was a 2nd hand, i didn't know about those rivnuts.
Didn't use them and it is solid as a house....

Well the RivNuts come supplied, and now a proud owner of a RivNut tool too. I suppose you can just use the rear handle fixing bolts, as there are 3, and clamp it on that way. But at a guess, they aint that stong, and once they break there is NO other option than to buy a new rear lamp/handle assembly, which is a lot more money than the few quid I paid on a RivNut tool.

Mac, just a question, instead of having to drill your tailgate for the rivnuts,(which I agree are a rubbish idea), could say a rubber washer then a metal washer and nyloc nut be fitted inside to secure those two? Might need longer bolts I suppose but is there room / access for that?......Cheers.

In theory yes you can. The door frame runs behind the rivnuts, but is a hole there too, so yes you could if required.
